A kitchen remodel I designed and slapped together this morning and rendered in D5 Render. As usual with architecture this isn't a final design. Just practice.

Pretty cool. I can smell the creosote and salt air from here.

      Thanks.

D5 Render is pretty quick but there are some features it needs especially in materials since there is no naming of the textures involved and it's impossible to find in the D5 directory. They have an automated PBR function which works very well and the library is extensive. Any modifications to there materials though is difficult since you really don't know where to begin with their textures.

I amassed a large library of my own with materials and landscape elements which far exceeds my productivity in architectural renderings.

      Very nice.

Sometimes I go back to some old Sketchup models and shake my head at all the ungrouped elements in the model. I guess many of us have been at this for a long time now.

I used to neglect the ridges until someone mentioned it to me year many years ago.

You can still get my gutters, downspouts and conductor heads here here.

It changed! D5 Render is pretty cool. As you can see it's dry under the deck in the last rain shot.

Windows! Last week my Explorer search stopped working and my start window went blank. Took a couple of hours before I finally did the usual Microsoft fix in CMD prompt. I have no idea how it happened. I've had worse happen.

The red one is right here from 3D Warehouse:

      Cairo Metro -Line 1

I changed the material to red.

The trick to finding a lot of models in 3D Warehouse is to search a keyword + "3DWarehouse" in Google images. 3DWarehouse's search engine is practically useless. And in this case I translated "train" to Chinese which is 火车. You can use other languages to expand your search too which will result in finding more models sometimes.

I downloaded a free 3d model of substantial size from 3Sky and tried the following with the obj file.

      1. Import with Sketchup's obj importer. Locked up Sketchup, i.e. not responding.

      2. Used SimLab's importer. Works but parts of the model were missing or damaged.

      3. Imported obj file into Blender then exported Collada file (dae). Import dae file in Sketchup. Works.

      Liam,

I know it's happened a few time where I got either a 3ds or obj file that didn't work. Fortunately it was only about $5. That's why I made the comment about hopefully it working. I hope you get it figured out.

I used WinZip for a long time and 2 years ago I started using WinRar for compressed files. Either one should work. They used to have a long free trial. Not sure what it's like today.

Read the comments on the model page. He has his Whatsapp number there. Someone couldn't open the obj file in Sketchup either. Scroll down over here:

I found this one at 3dsky but it's not free. Cheap though but you have to hope the obj file works. Looks almost exactly like the pic you show.

@gus what are render like compared to Thea?

It has a lot of unique dynamic features with lighting, emissives, etc. An extensive material and model collection. Both the free and pro version. Some of it is easy and other things like material management is kind of clumsy. It's difficult to find materials if you want to modify their materials. It's more of an interactive "what you see is what you get" type of rendering. It doesn't have as many rendering options but it is fast to render. The appearance of the renderings are different and Thea lends itself to photo real renderings. The interface in D5 is not like your standard Windows operation and that takes some getting used to. It's easy to play around in D5 by adding characters and such including animals and vehicles. Both D5 and Thea are unique in what they provide.

Best I can think of early this morning. 😄

Same house in D5 Render and without the Dali influence. It's difficult to wrap those vines around a 6X6 post since it work with a 4X4 post. Otherwise scaling up the vines ends up with a 16 foot high vine.

Looks like I left the Pink Bower (vine) layer on instead of just the Wisteria. It works I guess.
