@grizzler what version of SketchUp/LayOut are you using? If it's 2023 try unticking the Override box in Document Setup>Rendering and then export.

Where are you exporting the file to? Is it a cloud location?

Yes I'm on the latest version and the box was already unticked by default

Please can you help, I can't export from Layout in any format, the progress bar appears but then nothing happens until it eventually says 'not responding'. There must be a setting or permission I need to change, but I don't know where to begin.

Does anyone know if VERAS will be heading our way? It's in Beta over on Revit and it'd be awesome if we got it too.

BTW D5 Render is also a ray tracing application.

Looks like the real question is the application engine and the gpu in your system. Learning some interesting things about rendering/render engines in this thread.

Twinmotion is also capable of raytracing as of the last few months, but they are both better known as instant renderers as they will never match the realism possible within v-ray, corona or Unreal Engine etc.

It all comes down to the vegetation asset library available in the fully licensed version of each, and as yet I don't know how they compare and I'd hate to shell out money to then find the other one is better 😆

...Blender EEVEE engine is realtime too. There's a build on Graphicall that has SSGI for EEVEE that's really quick to work with.

Don't forget Enscape which is part of the Chaos family.

They all have strengths and weaknesses. I think at the moment Enscape ticks the most boxes. Until we see TwinMotion move to UE 5.1.

Blender looks awesome for those who create models of individual items, but I spend all of my time creating bespoke terrains for construction by others which is why I loved the SU/Layout/Enscape interoperability. Chaos buying Enscape has many of us Enscape users concerned because all of the focus seems to be on enhancing v-ray (including Vantage and Vision) rather than improving Enscape - Twinmotion and D5 have left Enscape in their dust during the last 12 months, so I'm hoping there might just be one or two who have had the opportunity to try out the full versions of both and can guide me. My first instinct is TM, but one thing that 99% of jobs that I do includes is grass, and the TM grass is annoying to say the least.

I know very little about Unreal Engine other than it is quite complicated but the end results are spectacular when done right, but I have no need for such high level of detail personally

You might also take a look at Twilight Render. I think the pro version has a set of assets that might help as well (not positive of that though). It does work interactively with SketchUp also.

Twilight is a raytracer, I don't have the requirement for that (or the time - several hours for a video!), plus the best two raytracers are generally v-ray and Corona according to architectural types I know. Instant renderers are the only option for me as my models get quite large with buildings, terrain and masses of vegetation. Lumion has been the best out there for about a decade, but Twinmotion and D5 are nipping at its heels and they are a fraction of the cost.

    • Which instant renderer is best for Landscape projects?

Hello folks, I seek your opinions please. I've been using Sketchup Pro with Enscape for the last few years and it has been great in general, although I would often look with envy upon the assets that others seem to have available. However, despite having the best SU integration of any instant renderer I've seen, I'm concerned about Enscape being harvested for its best bits by v-ray in order to improve v-ray vantage, so I'm trying to have a back up plan in place. In your view which would you say is best for those involved in landscaping work out of Twinmotion and D5 Render (I'm not including Lumion because it costs WAY too much).

I've recently downloaded both free versions and I can't really split the difference, so I'd like to know if anyone has experience of the paid versions of both. One thing is for sure, I will miss the two way interactions between SU and enscape if I do have to make the move.

      @dave r said:

Tags should work fine for that. Create a colored circle component centered on your 3D plan component. Nest the two into a component so you can move them around as one. Give the circle and the 3D plant components different tags. Then for your plan view scene(s) turn off the tag for the 3D plant and turn on the tag for the 2D circle.

I can't believe I've never encountered this before in years of using sketchup, but I think I need 3 tags for the two items - one for the 3D file, one for the 2D image and a third for the pair as a component. I was trying to just use the two previously.

    • Plant models/symbols

      Hello.

I've been trying to think of the best way to quickly create and display garden 2D planting schemes. It's not something that has bothered me before as I generally provide rendered 3D visualisations of landscapes rather than anything particularly technical or data driven, but it's now becoming more of an issue.

I want a way to allocate a simplified 2D symbol (just a coloured circle will suffice) to a 3D component so that when I create a scaled plan in Layout I can see the 2D but not the 3D. Layers won't work for me because the 2D and 3D items need to be tied together so that when one moves the other does too - any suggestions?

Finally! It has taken me 24 hours of disabling and enabling everything I can, numerous restarts, cache clearances etc, and the thing that finally worked was to enable my VPN and set it to a US server, suddenly all my problems were solved! I've no idea why this worked but it did and I'm not going to question it in case I jinx it

It doesn't seem to be my browser but it might be my firewall, it's blocked the following today and I'm wondering whether it might be what I need - I don't want to whitelist it without knowing though:

      Device Association Framework Provider Host
      Remote Address: 239.255.255.250

      What do you think?

I just deactivated my firewall and tried again but I still get blocked

    • ExtensionStore empty

I've just downloaded ExtensionsStore v4.2.9 so I can get my Fredo6 license and it just comes up blank. I've restarted SU and turned off my VPN but it just remains blank for a while and then says " Navigation to web page was cancelled". If I then click on "refresh page" it says "This site is not secure. This might mean that someone’s trying to fool you or steal any info you send to the server. You should close this site immediately." - Any suggestions?

Everything else is working fine for me, my connection is stable and decent speed.

I imagine hi detail info will cost money. Not sure who can supply that to you locally but there must be some council agency or something that has it.

I'm not getting my hopes up, some of the more rural places I work in have only just stopped pointing and gasping at cars.

      Sorry.

Are there any local GIS data suppliers around you?

I've never had a need for one before as I'm expanding my services a bit to include town planning instead of only landscape design work. I went straight to google initially but it has only offered me a great deal of mediocrity.

      Hello.

I'm after a few recommendations for good quality 3D terrain and building file providers please. I thought I'd found a good one at zmapping.com but I've been waiting a long time for quote information to come through from them so I'm wanting to look elsewhere. Any suggestions?

PS; The building structures are essential, so the Near-Map option in SU isn't good enough.

    • Building construction extensions

      Hello wise sages of sketchup.

I've started working with a company that designs and constructs timber framed buildings in the UK and I'd like to know which of the various extensions are the most efficient. I'm currently modelling everything as efficiently as possible using components and a free extension called Open Cut List to create a materials list, but I've seen videos for the Medeek suite, PlusSpec, Quantifier Pro etc and I want a budget friendly solution that will help me model and quote faster. I'm assuming that the aforementioned and others can also be set to metric from the default imperial measurements, that's essential, plus I need to be able to alter the construction specification to how we do things.

I'm leaning towards Medeek presently, but I'd welcome any input from experienced users. I'm more accustomed to landscape/garden design work so I need all the help I can get.
