A really nice render and a nicely lit studio setup.

RE: Seamless Stone Textures?
Great site, I will add it to the main sticky texture links thread.

RE: Materials
Have you placed all these materials in the materials folder C:\ProgramFiles\Google\Google Sketchup 7\Materials

RE: Annotating in Sketchup
You should really look at annotating your drawing in Layout, that is one of the things it is designed for, where as Sketchup is not.
You need SU Pro to have Layout. You can always download the 8hr trial version if you do not own it and wish to try it out. -
RE: Using the forum as a teachers aid?
The students would get much quicker answers if they just used the Newbie forum, not that Im against a separate group being created.

RE: NPR tests
I agree with oli.
I have never been a big fan of the watercolour style, but these, especially the first have a style all of there own that is very appealing. -
RE: Mighty mouse and sketch up question
I would personally and do use a "normal" mouse on my mac.
I much prefer something with more functions and control than the Apple mouse for SU work. -
RE: SketchUp Animating.... SUPER HUGE FILES!!!
Check out this tutorial by Paul Russam Andrew.

RE: [Tutorial > Plugin] ToolsOnSurface
Really like the feature of being able to draw shapes perpendicular to edges.

RE: Adding texture to a spaceship model
It's looking good, I like the design.
I would round the edges as Gaieus mentioned in an earlier post.

RE: Carrara anyone?
Agree, looks cool and fun but not sure it would be useful in my workflow.

RE: Happy Birthday Sweetheart
I love it.
Nice detail and a good render. What did you use to render Eric?
I am loving the poster on the wall. Is it an actual poster painted by your daughter?
Did you model everything in this room? -
RE: I7 macbook pro and 30" display
You could always ask them to hook it up in your local Apple Store if you prefer to see it in action.
Can I ask you guys with laptops, when running the big screens behind do you just look at the big screen and not your laptop screen?
I have a 17" MBP also and the thought of using a 30" monitor behind my screen seems confusing. -
RE: Autumn Render SU > Maxwell
Beautifully rendered and the attention to detail is superb.
I like the little things like open windows, modelled roof tiles, the roof valley and especially the ridge tiles.
Great work -

This is an age old argument, I had it with a new colleague the other day. It is futile really. Just accept the difference of opinion and let your modelling speak for itself.
Totally agree Jon.

RE: Animate components ?
I recently used a similar method to Gaieus, but mine is straight SU output exports and compiled in Keynote (Powerpoint equivalent)
Extremely simple method and very quick.[flash=853,505:1nxle1uv]http://www.youtube.com/v/SYjcCPBCgew&fs=1[/flash:1nxle1uv]

RE: Convert walls to planer surfaces
There is going to be some work involved whichever method you use.
This work will be far easier if the building is modelled correctly using groups, components and layers.Thinking off the top of my head, what I would do if I received a 3d model with wall thickness is, go to plan view and turn off the roof to reveal all internal walls. I would push pull them back down to floor level, which will leave the outline on the floor. You would need to make sure there is a line drawn where the internal wall meets the outer wall so you do not push everything down. You could then just draw a few lines using the pencil tool and the inference engine to quickly add back the faces of the walls. I guess what may need some thought is how accurate you need these wall positions? If you need to create a wall with thickness as a single plane, you may need to create this plane central to the said wall.
