i hope that trimble can come up with some combo controller for layers visibility and structure of nested components. like layers and outliner combined into ultimate and better tool. something like corel draw has.

RE: Paste in place is ignoring layers
Hi,
I remembered that i used this work flow somewhere and i believed that it was in SU, but probably i am mistaken. so I did some testing in few applications, where i performed copy and cut+paste combo, and observed behavior of layers information.so autocad is behaving same as sketch up - copies are distributed on the layer of the original object same is cut+paste.
photoshop makes new layer for anything inserted from clipboard
illustrator does exactly what i wanted SU to do. When i cut some object from layer A and paste them somewhere when layer B is active, objects are put on layer BAnd quite frankly i like this mechanics.

RE: [Plugin] OpenStudio (Energy Modeling) ver 0.11.0
Hi David,
This looks awesome. I did have done some test with the previous versions, but i still didn't have enough time to test the new stuff.
Especially i like the tutorials they are just best.D.

RE: SketchUp 2014 Wishlist
yes i did meant cumulative.
I would like to see cumulative volume in entity info panel, that is the reason why i am posting it in sketch up 2014 wishes. But Chris if you can do that by some ruby script that would be cool. Maybe the information doesn't have to by in entity info tab it also can be in measurements box or information line next to it. -
Paste in place is ignoring layers
Hi guys,
I usually use cut and paste in place for editing structure of nested components. My problem occurs, when i place component on wrong layer. So i try to solve it by cutting it into clipboard and than pasting using paste in place to put it into desired position like in component structure and axes location, but layers doesn't work.
I am sorry my for my English and i use example for better explanation.
I am modeling family house in the model are layers and two of them are vegetation and furniture. I did made mistake by placing a chair into a vegetation layer. I try to solve it by ctrl+X
cutting it to clipboard and placing it to different component named kitchen furniture, witch lies on layer furniture. What happens is it put it on same layer in different component structure even though layers 0 is active all the time.
So what i thing i want from programing prospective is: that basic copying of components ctrl+c remembers layer information and cutting don't.It can be very confusing i copy mentioned chair in scene one where is layer vegetation active and i am pasting it in place at scene 2 where layer vegetation is not active so i am pasting chairs on hidden layer and it seems like bug.
best wishes

RE: SketchUp 2014 Wishlist
Some easy native way to check commutative volume of nested component with solid parts in it.

RE: SketchUp 2014 Wishlist
my wish would be layout version of autocad sheets sets hopefully better solution of that sort

RE: Color wheel
i too prefer hsl, but i actually liked kerkythea (and gimp painter) color wheel triangle combination. I think that is the best one.

RE: Your Ideas for SketchUp 2014
some time ago i was thinking about visibility control in su.
and now we have three different systems. Scenes, layers, hidden/unhidden geometry. We have three tools to control that. Layers, scenes and outliner. I think its possible to combine them into one tool. Scenes are used to remember layer states and geometry isolations and do it as their secondary feature. the are scenes after all so i wouldnt change them, but i thing outliner and layers can be combined into one tool. something like corel draw has, but better. This is just addition to my previous suggestion. -
RE: Your Ideas for SketchUp 2014
from top of my head.
better UI obviously (toolpalets, docking stuff, two monitors friendlyness, in my opinion ribbon wouldby great too)
field in layout and sketchup. I actually dont know why LO can not autonumber pages, insert name of the viev as a field ...
foldering layers is nice koncept i miss in SU and LO
If LO should become more serious i would like to see layout things warohouse (hatches, blocks, linestyles . ..)
cloud data sounds like a must. -
RE: Better fog tools ?
DaveR naled it with the picture!
exactly what i had on my mind. visually i was imagining repaints axes gadget.
so i hope lives thats good.
good luck Renderiza in making.

Better fog tools ?
Hi guys,
I am just wandering if someone could benefit from better fog tool.
I am thinking of distances based falloff.
Or is there any other way to be consistent results with fogtool?
My problem is that my elevations and exports with fog, are with different shades of colors and it simply looks bad on paper. -
RE: How can anyone possibly use layout
hey guys,
nice discussion.
I was looking to this topic really closely after i so Nicks videos.
And i did meet few problems.
The biggest one is absence of fields (autocad reference) and thus inability make my drawings smart. page numbering, automatic component information extraction like length, area, name ... just stuff i use in autocad.- fog tool - i had problems to make the models consistently fade away. i just ended up with little but, still notable differences and it didn't look just right. I would need precise control over of fog distance parameters.
- My research included Archicad, Vectorvorks, allplan, revit, revit LT, Inventor LT.
And i closely looked at revit lt and vectorvorks. But still decided to stay at auto cad LT with referencing Layout exports be it raster or vector ones. And another one is copletlz based on illustrator, photoshop and indesign.
I am really disappointed in layout from the beginning. There are some statements about that that made me like wow really ? I believe they are from basecamp 2008
There will be no dimensions.
There will be no gradients.
that is not what we wanted (sad after showing some construction documents)So this a reason why is not even close to sketch up.
I believe that program if should be used by more professionals should be done completely different and or previous mentioned statement cannot be state during any part of its development. -
RE: Nodebased GUI [WIP]
Hi Jolran,
I believe your development style is much better. Your big plus is consistency of development and communication. I believe from time to time someone tries to program something but nobody really can be consistent, but you are !!! Actually i was wondering if something like that already exists in china and i didn't find anything, but i will keep looking there is a lot of interesting stuff in there.
kind regards

RE: [Plugin] Hatchfaces (v1.8 beta) UPDATED 15-Dec-2012
Hi,
glad to hear about your progress. I am looking forward to new hatchfaces.
Also I am happy, that you know about krills work. But question is if he knows about yours. Maybe you can join forces or maybe he is working on some parametric modeling on his own.
I would like to here what he has to tell about parametric grasshoper-like modeling in sketch up and i think You even more.kind regards

RE: [Plugin] Hatchfaces (v1.8 beta) UPDATED 15-Dec-2012
Hi Jorlan,
I taught you would like to see work of krill2008
https://sites.google.com/site/lssoft2011/home/lss_matrix
this plug in is very help full and i think the closest thing to parametric modeling in sketch up.
You probably know about this plugin, but just in case you missed it. -
RE: Cricket for SketchUp; could this be true?
Hi Jorlan,
This will be a gamechanger !!! and much better than Christmas.PS: I volunteered for beta testing your hatchface/paneling plugin, but I discovered that I am not able to provide you with constructive feedback due to lack of experience with plugin development. I am just sketch up enthusiast with architectural education. So I am not very useful betatester at this stage, but I hope I can help later. May by I can do some UI design stuff or You name it I would be more than happy to help make parametric modeling available in SU.

RE: What's the best way ?! [Organic Shapes - Buildings]
Hi Jolran,
If you are writing some prametric modeleng plugin and you want some betatesters here i am voluntering. -
RE: Hey Metric Residential Desingers and Drafters...
Hi Guys,
I would recommend using millimeters rounded to tens like 5890, witch is actually 589 centimeters. There are many advantages to using millimeters for architectural drawings.
1 - no fractions or decimal commas ...
2 - it is easily recognizable and unmistakable wit another units
3 - I don't use any shortcut for units like mm, cm ...
4 - I use only one unit and that is mm. That makes thinks simple.I use millimeters for dimensioning and structural drawings and use meters for modeling in sketch up (too much needless zeros).
