Nice rendering. The valance isn't very clear - what material is it? Looks like it might be wood, but it has no thickness.

I was really sickened, even massively infuriated when I saw the bombings. There was a young guy with both his legs blown off that they showed on the news by mistake, I was just speechless. I doubt it's just one individual who planned this, the bombs were identical and too coordinated. My heart goes out to the US.

Another thing I found sickening was the White House press release photo of "Obama being briefed". Why is this necessary? Does he have a photographer around ALL the time in case of a disaster? Do people need proof he answered a phone call? The image looks so contrived.

      http://cdn.gretawire.foxnewsinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/obama415-562x374.jpg?9d7bd4

Yes, there are White House photographers that follows the president everywhere (not just Obama - Bush, Clinton, Bush 1, Reagan etc.) photographing everything. There is even an official White House Photo Office. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/author/Pete%20Souza
I believe the only place they don't go is into the private residence, unless invited.

And, yes, there are people who want to know what the President is/was doing at the time of a crises. Some out of a sense of reassurance, some for purely politically skeptical reasons.

Welcome aboard. I'm surprised you wrote its not intuitive. But, like most programs, the more you use it and play with it, the easier it will become.

Cornucopia3D sells the sketchup to vue plugin:

I haven't used it myself. Somewhere in the Extensions and Applications forum there is a thread that discusses it.

If you like bars/drinking, be sure to check out Pat O'brien's and have a hurricane. And no trip to the French Quarter is complete without beignets at the Cafe' Du Monde.

went to the original cafe du monde last night and had coffee & beignets by the river.. there's one by my hotel too so I'll probably be getting my fill of chickory.. surprised they don't put Tabasco in their coffee down here 😄

Bloody Mary is my drink this month.. i think the nola recipe is 1/3 vodka 1/3 tomato 1/3 pepper.. and an olive

But a hurricane is a new Orleans original. It has light rum, dark rum, vodka, gin, and liquer. i think it has some friut juices, too, but with those other ingredients what does it matter? 😆

Looks great, Red. But if I were dining in a restaurant on the beach, I'd want to see the beach/water through the windows, not translucent Kalwall panels.

using sketchup instead of rhino on this gig.. (ie- not a very complicated project 😉 )

Peter, probably VUE, if I render it at all, but I'll worry about getting the model done first.

Thank you, Robert and Elibjr. Life (and an old computer) has interrupted this project, but hopefully soon I will be able to finish it. Elibjr, my ultimate goal is to have a rendered 2D elevation framed (I'm a fan of rendered elevations, from my pre-computer days in architecture school).

    • RE: AutoCAD Architecture 2014

I'm not sure about that, Kristoff. It would appear the non-profit Open Design Alliance has developed a platform for use by it's members to develop DWG files.

Interestingly, Autodesk was unsuccessful in trying to trademark the DWG file extension. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled "DWG is merely descriptive of applicant’s goods under Section 2(e)(1) of the Trademark Act for two reasons: (1) DWG is a recognized abbreviation for “drawing," and (2) .dwg is a file format used for computer-aided design (CAD) drawings made both with applicant’s CAD software and others’ CAD software." It would seem their successs in permeating the market to the point their file format was ubiquitous worked against them in this case.

Also, I wonder if the DWG format was "owned" by one company (Autodesk) while so widely used in the industry, if they wouldn't have trouble with antitrust laws.

    • RE: AutoCAD Architecture 2014

Kristoff, I never could understand why the architectural industry in general would spend so mucch money on Autodesk products, since there are cheaper programs out there. I can only figure Autodesk convinced everyone that Autocad is the "must have" program (the "Graphic Standards" of CAD...but don't get me started on Graphics Standard).

Rendering looks okay, but design-wise I think there are too many different tile patterns, and I think it is a bit dark. Wouldn't you want tile on the wall to the right of the tub, to protect it from any water splash?

Thanks. The second one is an improvement, but it still looks like a SU model.

I think I prefer the first one, as it is in the sunlight, but they both look great. I think your being too hard on yourself - they look rendered to me, even if they are "just" SU.
