Just now installing SU 2018 and setting it up to my preferences. Can the toolbars no longer be arranged vertically on the left edge of the screen?

RE: Take a look at a week of #SketchUp work
Beautimus! My one criticism would be that I think you need to add some life (people, cars, etc.).

RE: Hope Chest
"Mothercare hitmen." I thought that referred to the men you hire to "take care of" the mother-in-law.
Beautiful model. For added realism, you might adjust the texture in the center two panels. (but then, only jackasses like me would notice that).

RE: Log cabin.
I like the random colored (stained?) logs; gives it a contemporary feel. And like the floor texture. But the direction of the texture on the rafters is all wrong. I think you need to increase the bump on the fireplace brick texture, as it looks too smooth. You might consider cropping the image on the left, as the wardrobe is too prominent. Also, why is there a wood burning stove WITHIN the fireplace? Doesn't that mean most of the heat will go up the chimney?

That plant is looking too healthy!
It's not real, it's plastic.
The room has one saving grace - at least it has some color. As opposed to neutral gray or beige chairs and carpeting. And it's missing the corporatey inspirational poster. So, there is hope for it yet. -
RE: Hard Day
Nice work. However, there is something about having three lights on and it still being so dark that seems illogical.

RE: BAUHAUS / MID CENTURY
The cabriole legs on that dining table don't look very Bauhaus.
Nice job, Hector. -
RE: Preview: Classical Theatre W/ Proscenium Arch (Broadway)
Quite the undertaking. After studying your images carefully, I hate to say it but the balcony appears too far forward. I've never seen a theatre with the front of the balcony so close to the stage; I'm afraid if you looked at it in a section drawing, you might have a problem with sight lines. Also, IMHO, your chandeliers appear dinky to the space, as seen in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pictures.
Would be nice to see some views of the ceiling, as they are usually very decorative in such theatres.
Look forward to seeing the finished product. -
RE: USS Skipjack (SSN-585) American nuclear-powered attack subma
Looks great. Is there significance to that submarine, or did you just model it for the helluvit?

RE: 1st SU Model Revisited
Great modeling job, Charles. Do people view the aquarium through windows on a lower level? Unless it houses something like otters, which inhabit the surface a lot, I don't see how anyone could really enjoy it if one only looks at it from above.

RE: Windows 10 problems, anyone?
Yeah, that troubleshooter is good at identifying if there is a problem, but can never identify exactly what the problem is, which means its a failure as a troubleshooter. All-in-all, I think Windows 10 is more trouble than it's worth. Makes me glad I didn't upgrade my home computer.

Windows 10 problems, anyone?
My office has been having a recurring problem - we periodically lose network connections between the computers and networked printers. I am convinced this is a result of Windows 10 automatic updates. It's the only solution I can think why things are okay one day and not the next (and where these settings are to be found is beyond some of my co-workers ken, so I know they aren't making the changes).
Anyone else have this problem? I've searched the internet but cannot find it (but can find other problems associated with Windows 10 updates!). Which means I cannot find a solution, either.

RE: Simple Pendant Lights
Your pulling our collective leg - it's a photograph! You found that photo and copied it in SketchUp, and now trying to pass the original photo off as a rendering. We're onto you, mister!

RE: Total Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017
That's exactly what the shadows were doing, David. I can't say it really emotional for me or my co-worker, but we didn't have totality. It was very fascinating, nonetheless.

RE: Lumion or LumenRT?
LumenRT was bought by Bentley about a year ago. And, unfortunately, they changed the pricing - not only did they jack the price up, but sell it on a subscription-only basis (under eon, it was like SU - you bought it once, and as long as you paid the modest maintenance fee each year, subsequent versions and updates were free). Now it is too expensive for my modest means; I'll stick with the old eon software version for now.
If I were choosing between the two today (or if I ever get a really huge bonus or win a lottery) I would choose Lumion - for the money, you get more bang for your buck, IMHO.

RE: Total Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017
I'm about an hours drive from where they had totality. A co-worker and I enjoyed what we had from our parking lot. At it's peak, from our point the Sun was covered up about 99%. To a casual observer, the Sun appeared normal - amazing how much light it was still putting out even though most of it was blocked. To us the most fascinating aspect was even though the sun was shining, and the shadows hadn't moved, it got very dark here. All the cicadas started singing. And the trees cast weird shadows on the pavement. It was a weird, wonderful 30 minute respite from work.

RE: Boys' Football Themed Bedroom
In keeping with the theme, you should replace the dresser with lockers.

RE: Sports and Rec Center
Or, you could use impact resistant glass. Sure, it would cost a fortune, but like I told a structural engineer who told me once what I wanted would cost a lot more: "It's not my money, so I don't care."
