I use rich section plugin for this. Once the rs is set, I unlock it's group and copy it to a new file. After that, I rotate the group accordingly, and proceed to export the file as a 3d DWG.

I don´t want to spam this topic, but, anyone with experience with both skalp and richsection, how do they compare?

I´ve been using richsection for about two months (using it with layout), and found it works really well. It also seems to work better with solids, but once that is dealt with, you get section materials by layer/material, projections, 2d section slices separated by layers, ready to export to dwg. Sections have to be manually updated (rs redraws them automatically), but that is simple enough.

I´ve seen videos of skalp, but without a demo, there is no easy way to know.

Make a temporary group of the lines you want to keep independent

Are you using auto scale for dimensions? I never use it, set scale manually

Also, bounding box margins for text objects does not scale proportionally with font size. Small text boxes have a proportionally bigger size, compared to a bigger text box. Esp. Evident with text with background color/outline.

I try not to use text smaller than 8 pt, for that reason. It would be nice if that was fixed though...

Do you get the same problem exporting to jpeg?

If so, maybe a style with sketchy edges is being used (just a guess)?

I would volunteer to help manually translate some plugins to spanish. Ruby developers give a loooot to us regular sketchup users, so helping with things like this is the least we can do. Those automatic translations are really really bad, esp. for technical terms.

If there is a central topic, where developers ask for volunteers to translate their plugins, maybe by plugin, or by language, count me in!

Three small things.

Can default settings be saved, at least per session? I´m creating several rs on a model, I´m changing some of the settings from the default (rs profile lines to yes, so I can snap to the rs in layout, and projections to off) I have to do this every time I create an rs. Seems simple, but if I forget, and leave projections on, it takes forever to create an rs.

It would be great to have esc abort the rs creation/update. Right now, the only way I´ve found is to either leave rs running, or force quit sketchup....

In the settings dialog, move RSName to the top... Right now it is not easily found, down at the bottom.

Hi Piet,

Some screenshots of the dialog boxes, win vs. mac. I´ve highlighted in red the clipped text. I tried shortening some of those lines, but the dialog would resize, and clip other text. It also happens in the english translation...

In your rs settings, section was off (the first item on the list). Also, some of the groups/components in your model were non solid.

From my experience, rs works better with solids. I use tt's solid inspector a lot. RS works well with nested solids, and even with multi mesh solids (something native su solid tools has problems with).

Things to avoid:
Ungrouped geometry.
Dividing lines on coplanar faces, except when they are used to separate different materials.

Great news, it works on the mac!!!!

Well, most of it. The console still shows some errors, and it is very slow(core2duo macbook from mid 2010), compared to my work pc (Core I7). Probably has to do with logging.

I can update an existing rich section, and I am currently creating a new one, but it is veeery slow (projection depth default should not be no limit, it makes rs veeery slow). Also, parameter change sort of works, but it will not update changes directly. The section has to be manually updated after closing the dialog.

Info, does not work, it stops expecting start, but no indication on how to (enter, double click, right click)

What else should I check?

Maybe a FR to turn thumbnails creation from ruby on or off to trimble. Quite annoying, and imo not that useful.

I´m posting this separately to try and keep this thread organized.

Can you set via ruby scenes to not generate scene thumbnails? Currently, all scenes created with rs have this set to yes. It is not to useful, and slows down scene creation/editing in large models.

This is set per scene, not globally.
