hi that's exactly the same way which I'm running my render jobs. Even my render pc is quite similar. The problem is not SkUp on the render pc, but the performance of the Internet connection via VNC in my case. Every click in Skup causes a new image transfer via the internet... Everything appears with delay which can be quite annoying. So I'm trying to fix everything on my workstation for being able to start only the render tasks later. Something else. Not all Skup shortcuts are working via VNC. And a rebooting of the rendering engine (crtl-alt-del) also doesn't work via VNC, if needed...

@tedvitale_cg said: Try this glass out. You'll need to apply it to a thickened geometry for the refraction to work (model the glass pane), but it should give you a good starting point. Thanks for that, really appreciate it! I will get some rendering done this weekend using that glass.

I also use Sketchup mostly for creating laser cutting files. My own experience is that AutoCAD (dxf, dwg) files rarely work well - for example, the segments making up a curve will often all be exported as many small 'closed' curves, such that every small segment is cut individually from one end to the other and back again, and often in seemingly nonsensical order. For this reason, I tend to use the SVG export plugin that Jim suggested (together with CorelDraw or InkScape if I need to tweak the SVGs) - sounds like a hassle, but I find it can actually be far less labour intensive than trying to 'clean up' an AutoCAD file. Of course, this will depend on what cutter/laser software you are using - so let us know what your spec's are; if they are the same as what I use here, I'd be happy to share what I've learned over the last year or two.

@solo said: Hmmm... What render engine do you use? This kinda looks like Vray and tons of photoshop (all added stuff in PS has no shadows) Hmm I see what you mean now. I am using Podium at the moment. I'm not to worried about the post photoshop stuff, trees etc. Its just developing a style similar to the actual building?

Layers in SU are NOT like layers in CAD. In SU layers only control visibility -- they do not separate geometry. ALWAYS draw on Layer 0. If you want, say, to make the floors appear one by one in a buildup. Group the first floor, THEN move that group to Layer 1, Group second floor, then move to layer 2, etc. Make scenes where the appropriate layers are hidden or revealed as you move from scene to scene.
