http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40773 Looks like someone tried to make a dxf exporter. It might be missing some functionality, but for simple 2d stuff it looks like it could work? Chris

I've had some issues with dropbox sync too, although I continue to use it as it seems to be the best solution for keeping working files in one location so I can access them anywhere on whichever computer I pick up to use. I'm not sure it's a good idea to be sharing the same working model at the same time as this could lead to issues or files getting renamed with extensions where it sees a conflict. I think my issues may of been with larger files that took too long to save while there may of simultaneously been a dropbox sync happening? One process i am currently trying is to save my working files to a folder on my local machine (which I also think has other speed benefits as it is a raid configuration) and then use a "folder sync utility" like "Allway Sync" to sync those files to the dropbox folder. The automated configuration of Allway Sync will only update (sync the files) if there have been no changes to the saved file for a predefined period. I think (and I've yet to fully test it) this may be a more robust way to avoid conflicts? Absolutely, one has to wait for dropbox to complete it's synchronization prior to logging off or shutting down as those files will not be on the server and consequently unavailable to other shared folders ( a mistake i see many new adopters of dropbox make). Allway Sync is free with some imitations, and i know there are other similar solutions too. I would go with windows "SyncToy" but it requires manual sync, and to set it up in task manager is a bit too fussy and has limited options for sync times - unless you just want it to run once a day.

Dave and Chris - I'll use your suggestions. It sure would be nice if you could simply modify the world origin in a manner similar to the axes. Thanks for your help! Doug

Hello, I have developed a workflow to set layer colours imported from cad. It has a few steps. Run a cad program (.LSP) that creates a file with layer names and Autocad Color Index number. Use MS Excel and VBA to convert the Autocad Color Index number to RGB. Import the layer names and assigned colours to Sketchup using Tig's layerfromlist.rb I can share the code if anyone is interested. It does require that you have access to run AUTOCAD & .LSP routines as well as MS Excel VBA. Cheers, Miner_jeff

hi tig, thank you. the thing with skp 6 is, that i have a lot of rubies on it working very well, and still not time for checking all of them with skp 8. besides that i prefer the internal component system of skp6, in skp 8 it is online on my pc (maybe switchable, i did not check this yet). with the new laptop then..... but thanx for your info! stan

@taffgoch said: That triangular-windowed roof makes a grand addition to the design. It could, just as easily, have been composed of rectangular windows, with triangular windows at the intersections. Have you compared the appearance of triangular vs. rectangular? -Taff (Make no mistake, I'm a fan of triangulated constructs.) it would seem like rectangles would make the number of different parts increase which would cause the cost to rise as well i might take a look at it later but for now im happy with the triangles

@unknownuser said: Ok, I know it must exist, however, I can not find the solution. Is there away, or plugin that will export scenes created by me, to image files. I have a model with 12 scenes showing how to install the equipment, and I wanted to do an export of all the scenes to images files so I could place the images into a PPP. I did it by going to each scene and exporting to a png, but surely there is away or plugin to do this automatically. Thanks in advance Ken Ken, Your profile shows you are a SU Pro user. SU Pro has Layout for just such a scenario. Open SU model in LO.....generate a page for each scene(add text etc if/as).....export to .jpg or .png. Best, Charlie

You may well be right. However, I've only been using Sketchup for a few weeks and as a hobby at that. I've been doing re-paints (skins) for the flight Simulator community for the last 10 years or so and all has been freeware. So my use for sketchup is modelling for flight Sim X.(free stuff) I gave up on Gmax and struggled with FSDS. I can't justify spending 100's of £'s on the pro version as well as the fact I'm retired and live on a pension. So I shall continue bothering all you learned folk here for the best way forward with the free version

That would be great - I did try to clean up the file with just what was needed, but it's still over 5 mb's - so if I could send it to you that would be awesome. Thanks

Cleaning up the leftover geometry depends on whether or not the unwanted 'bits' are whole faces, in which case you can zoom in and erase away. Otherwise you could turn on hidden geometry and add lines in strategic places to keep the parts of faces you need, and then delete the remainder. Someone with more experience than me could direct you better here I'm sure. Regarding the corner you mentioned... hard to tell from the pic what would be causing the texture issue. If you haven't already done so, you might make sure all of your faces are faced correctly (front face facing out). I've read that reversed faces can cause rendering issues, so maybe your game is reacting the same way. Good luck!

And why not draw some remarquable points following the helix path (each quarter), thean draw a bezier spline (FSpline) from Fredo6 with numerous points on the spline on theses quarters? Like this you will have a soft transition between each changment of pitch!

@ricky_ric said: Yes,O.K, I phrased incorrectly. I want to use a warehouse model(that someone else made). Export a specific angle in 2D. Do a full blown photoshop painting over it. Present it to the director. Is this legal? That sounds like it's OK. Your limitation is not to pass on such warehouse models 'for money' [either as they are, or combined into your own models - at least without very very extensive changes to their form]***. However, using them as the basis of your own 2d imagery seems uncontentious. Selling an image isn't selling the object [unless of course it's substantially an image already - like a 'texture'!]. BUT you ought to read the terms of the warehouse to satisfy yourself. Even if you are quite sure that there is no issue, then it might be polite to inform [ask?] that SKP's author of your intentions... Put yourself in their position - if you were to put your own model into the warehouse, with unfettered download etc, then would you expect others to be limited in using it, other than you'd be miffed if they sold your work as it it were their own... ***Models obtained from elsewhere will often have different limitations - e.g. FormFonts and similar providers say you shouldn't pass on their models to others at all, evenly freely, also you can often only reuse them while you are still paying the annual 'license'; but again using your own 2d images of these models is not seen as contentious.

A physically correct Renderer will need a thickness.
