Thanks for the replies. I worked out what the issue was in the end. The camera was coming through in the right position and focal length. However, when I changed the size of the render window to match the photograph the focal length of the camera changed. So after fixing the size of the render I went back and changed the focal length back to the original value and it worked perfectly. Thanks again for your replies. Andy

Hi Carlo, Kim had it correct. 3dsmax needs to update their importers to read the SU 2013 file format. You can contact them directly to find out what their timeframe is for making that update. Thanks, Chris

I don't see any clipping with the model and it doesn't seem to be too far from the origin. Your units are pretty small for the size of the model. .01 precision in millimeter is probably a little small. I would think in metric you would be ok with just 1.0 millimeter precision. this might help.

Thanks jiminy I've tried that and there's a couple of problems there: As I jump between scenes, the matched photo appears before the model rotates to the right position and obscures the model to the viewer so it's hard to Understand what is going on (is there a way for the matched photo to appear later?) When I try to export to, say, pdf 3d, I can't find away to export it without losing the matched photo. Will appreciate any ideas

Ok So my system is a bit better but still not performing good and I now have to restart every 30 mins or so instead of 10. I wiped all sketchup 8 and 13 files. Reinstalled 13. Then added the sketucation plugin mananger and like 3 or 4 plugins that I need. Simple stuff like center point, dxf export, and something else. Complexity of the file does have some bearing on it. A simple file just lasts longer before it starts to get jerky on the zoom and then slowly degrade to unusable. Doesn't matter if I'm using it or not. I can just leave it open and come back to have it almost locked up. The rest of my system doesn't have any problems. Just sketchup. I swapped the graphics card back to the better one and the issues is on both of them. Direct Diag doesn't show any issues. Everything is active and I don't have any problems with anything but sketchup. As for my memory, 500mb is labeled as free. I have 3gb and have maxed out my windows 7 32 bit system. Windows 7 will just eat all the memory that is left so I technically have like 2 gb free with windows eating it all for transitions and other crap that it will dynamically stop using as my programs need it. Driver is up to date. I've tried rolling it back and it doesn't change. SU 8 had the same issue. That is what prompted me to upgrade in the first place. So far, I'm not impressed with SU 2013. It's also the free version. I have not run a memory test but scheduled windows to do one the next time I reboot. Resetting the workspace from within the preferences menu fixes it once or twice but then it gets all weird and requires a full reboot. Other then a known issue with the video driver crashing during flash video, My system runs fine and doesn't have any heating problems any more. Games run fine for hours. The only program that is screwy is sketchup. Could it be the sketucation plugin? I didn't have problems before that was installed. It's the only thing I can think that changed around the time that the problem started and it has been in every instance that I have tried. It was stable for a bit without any plugins but I can't do actual work without my dxf exporter so I generally only tested it for a bit then installed sketucation and the dxf exporter. I might try a fresh install without that plugin.

Irrespective of your day-to-day default-browser, SketchUp always uses the OS's defacto browser when making many of its dialogs [that is IE for PC and Safari for MAC]. Setting that browser's permissions oddly will affect all kinds dialogs - from the 3dWH/EW to plugins using web-dialogs as their GUIs... So do not be overly restrictive in its 'options'. For example Javascript must be properly enabled in the options to allow most dialogs to work correctly. If you experience further issues then you could also look at clearing the IE/Safari cache, and reopening the effected dialog - because old versions of 'html' code etc can get recycled by that browser, instead of the using the latest pages etc...

Disable Vray beta and any BIM tools, and restart/retry. Also check you have the very latest LibFredo installed

It's probably using a sledgehammer to crack a nut but check out Kirill's LSS Toolbar, first image shows face to face via a path which should work: https://googledrive.com/host/0Bwmt-Rax8alUNkFEMjZkOWhfRFU/index.html, also http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=47399&p=426612&hilit=kirill#p426612 and it would appear to be version 8 I won't be upgrading any time soon either; the tide of rage from the early adopters makes me wary.

The discount update is from 2009 to 2013,2014 &2015 for about 1500 euros for two licenses. That's a rather good deal. You get all the updates up to 2015 in a socalled VSS. Vectorworks Service Select. I am sure that VW will not really be a crashing monster. It could be some updates are but that should be taken care off rather quick. I know VW very well and I love it. Its just that in 3D it all looks very old fashioned compared to what we do in SU, Modo and Maxwell. Also compared to Rhino. VW looks to me old school 3D modeling. You know the kind engineers are able to bear with but designers dread. Tx Unearthed for the links. I gave them a look. I will start a thread at Nemetchek to see what the VW community would like to share. Anyhow, anyone with real hands on experience here using SU as well as a recent version of VW. Would love to hear from you. Francois

ok, so i finally came up with a solution that works. i can now change the number of evenly spaced vertical partitions such that individual shelves (or sets of shelves) span the exact distance between them, making the lines that define ends of the shelves visible as they would be in reality: [image: jxkc.jpg] the explanation of how i got here and the hurdles i had to overcome would be quite verbose, so i'm just going to upload the component for you to download and play with. if anyone has questions about how or why i might have done something a certain way, feel free to ask. also, if anyone has suggestions on how to make this cabinet component less complex geometry/rendering-wise, i'm all ears. i know there's probably more geometry present than is necessary in order to make this cabinet work as i intend, but i'm a beginner, so that's to be expected...i don't know all of the ins and outs of SketchUp yet. thanks, Eric PS - how difficult would it be to add a 2nd predefined "Copies" attribute (not my own custom attribute) to the component attributes dialog box?...or is it even possible? this would make my model simpler with respect to the amount of geometry present with the component in its most basic form (0 shelves, 0 vertical partitions), if not in the amount of overall geometry rendered when many shelves and/or vertical partitions are present. @krisidious said: @hellnbak said: Could somebody please explain what this is about? Yeah, I are pretty SU dumb He was part of the Trimble team and he was a big supporter of the SketchUp Acquisition and perhaps a facilitator of it... He passed away last year I believe. This is their Trimble Tribute. Ah. Thanks for explaining that. I did find this thread that talks about Derrick http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=52492&p=475932&hilit=derrick#p475932 So now I know. Sad that he's passed away.

thank you for the responses. i've pulled off of the doorstyle part of the project...actually, i've put the entire Sketchup project on the back burner for now b/c we've had an influx of business that i have to attend to. in the mean time, i'll research Sketchup layers to see if that's one possible solution to displaying various doorstyles at will. i'll let you know how that works out when i get a chance...

Well as promised, I gave launchup a go. Sadly, I'm no farther ahead as I'm still 'searching' rather than sorting. Thanks again for the suggestion Hopefully someone at Trimble reads this and will tweak their SU interface to accommodate sorting list items with a right-click method.

You can organize on the mac but it gets messed up all the time. Mac windows and icons have always been bad for SU.

Jerry, no. I don't make the cutting plane a component. It must be in the same context as the geometry you want it to cut so as to leave a face at the cut surface. If you open one of the components with the cutting plane for editing and select all of the geometry, you should be able to do the Intersect Faces>With Selection thing with no problem.
