Thanks for the reply, Dave. @dave r said: First, to force the axis of rotation to be along the fold line, get the Rotate tool. Click on the end of the fold line and while holding the mouse button, drag along the fold line. Let go of the button and click again for the start of the rotation as normal. Yep, that much I know. It's animating the folding of the paper that I can't do. @dave r said: As far as the animation part, you'll see in the Read Me file that edges and faces do not have transformation data. Yep, I saw that in the Read Me file. @dave r said: You need to make components or groups of the separate parts. SO each smaller face created by a fold will need to be a separate component. And that's precisely what I did. I used the line tool to draw a diagonal line across the piece of paper. I then made one of the resulting triangles a group and rotated only that group. However, it doesn't rotate about the fold - hence the reason for my post. This should all be obvious in the file I attached. I'm still at a loss for how to force the axis of rotation to be at the fold line during the animation. Regards, -Steve

Switch to parallel mode, that should sort this out. If your model still looks clipped, hit Zoom Extent, then zoom back in.

You can build styles manually, without the use of the Style Builder. You need to rename a copy of the style to .zip extension, to see how its put together. The strokes are dictated by a series of png files.

plot-paris, thanks for sharing your thougths.... they go in the same directions as my wishes do, though I would not have been able to demonstrate my ideas in such a clear way... implementing the hierarchy suggestions would make much sense and be a great help to manage complex structures in very logical and easy-to-handle way. I would use it each and every day. Cheers, Franziska

@maverick83 said: Hi all Thank you all for helping me. I don't know... i have done exactly as lewiswadsworth said and actually i got my design imported in SU with only a few mesh lines that i successfully erased, but after that i've tried to import a little more complex item in SU and the result wasn't as good as the previous one... There are always too many meshes... It will take a hour to get rid of all those lines... And i've even selected the merge faces option in SU... Isn't there a way to send all those lines to hell without spending half the day? Thanks a lot!! No, curving surfaces in SU will always be composed of multiple polygons, unlike what you see in Rhino or Solidworks (which have different methods of describing geometry). Your best bet is to completely select one of the screws (every part of it) and then Right-Click. In the context menu, choose "Soften/Smooth Edges"; when the window pops up, move the slider until the edges you want hidden are gone.Make sure you check the "Soften Coplanar" box. They're not really gone, of course; they've been hidden and the face-normal spread between multiple polygons so that the multiple-surfaces look like one surface on your monitor. If you turn on View menu> hidden geometry, you can see and select the smoothed edges and individual polygon faces.

Chuck, I“ve noticed the orbit slowdown you mention. I don“t remember having that issue on my previous windows machine. I“ve noticed though, that if you click with your middle button over an empty area in the model you get the slowdown, but it will work as expected if you try and orbit clicking over any geometry in the model. Similar behavior to zooming over an empty area... Is this what you are experimenting? s

Today after work I will capture step by step what I did, so you could tell me what I'm doin wrong. I'm now pretty sure that I'm making the mistake somewhere in the process, but still don't know where.

@maverick83 said: Hi all The title says it all... I haven't figured out how i can import a 3D solidWorks design in SU... Is it possible? Do I need a third party software to achieve my goal? Thanks a lot!! p.s. i can save SolidWorks designs in these file format (i don't mention photograph format like .jpg ecc..): .prt .cgr .xaml .3dxml .u3d .eprt .stl .wrl .vda .sat .step .igs .x_b .x_t .sldftp .prtdot .sldprt Save to an acis file. Open DWGEditor. Import ACIS file. Save as a dwg. Import in Sketchup. Works great.
