Hi Tobbe, Note that after selecting an object (in Remus' case a group), you don't have to click on it with the move tool but you can click anywhere. If you create that offset to guide you, you can click on a midpoint of it, start the movement and click on the midpoint of the other, opposite line for instance. The leg will move accordingly. Oh, by the way, hitting Ctrl+Move will make copies of your legs.

Nice render. On the other hand, I do not care if my render is "something special", I need it to communicate and require predictable tools. Su is pretty good at what it does, and a quick, simple render (lights, a little bump and shine) is a plus most of the time. If however I have to spend a lot of time, fine tuning a rendering, I would miss a lot of deadlines. My decision of renderer is made accordingly. Now I am sure the priorities are different if you are a professional renderer, like Solo.

remus is right. I just checked it to be entirely sure. you can even draw several lines in a row (complex poly lines to close a face). as long as you keep holding down the shift key (starting when your cursor hovers over the face) it will continuously refer to this plane as drawing plane...

@unknownuser said: **":3ux7ncb2]...how would i make the sides of the staircase also raise \ like that is you get me whilst curving." You aren't likely to easily get the sides to raise using the push/pull tool. (If you do succeed, let us in on the trick.) Typically, such geometry is constructed, rather than taking a flat plan and "raising" it. You can use the flat plan as a reference, though, and base your 3D construction on reference points from the plan. You're likely to need the elevation view as well. You can construct without the elevation view, but the 3D-construct will be much more accurate if you include it. Here's an example from a past discussion: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=12511 I've posted the same model at the 3D Warehouse: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=c33b5756c92fd31c9e7d0b0047cf94a There are tutorials for spiral staircase construction in the warehouse, such as... http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=7672fd45565be2b53e4ec0bf8b876793 http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=3ff892f11dbb05184b13ef41335991d9 ...and many others... http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=spiral+stair&styp=m&reps=1&scoring=d&num=50 ...but most are not tutorials. Google has even provided a 3D Warehouse tutorial... http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b9890f8eb19a731583b9bda21bd049d ...to go with a post at the official Google SketchUp Blog: http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2008/07/building-spiral-stairs.html There are plugins for creating spirals and helices, however, since you're working from a plan, they aren't likely to help in this specific case. Hopefully, the above references will provide you with the techniques you need to construct the stairs. Let us know how you're getting along. Taff

Go to your styles dialog > In model (the little house icon) > Edit > Watermark settings (the little icon with the "OK" sign). There you can ad a background image with a bunch of settings after you start adding it (see screenshot) [image: XVJS_ScreenShot010.jpg] Then make sure that in your background settings ground is turned on (it should be by default in the 3D templates) otherwise the sky image will see through the ground: [image: aZTR_ScreenShot011.jpg]

Screw it, lets go for a whole SU operating system. All other apps will sit on top of it and be fully integrated.

Hmmm, doesnt sound like it should b overly troublesome. Might be worth trying to export as tiny jpegs to see if it is just running out of memory, because it might be something else. The problem is, SU cant address more than 4GB of RAM, even if youve got it. So upgrading your RAM wont actually help. Youll need to find a workaround, if the memory is the problem, of course.

Yes, that's definitely a solution however not very "economic" with component instances.

Voder, Your excellent example gave me an idea. Wouldn't it be great to have a ruby to do the first part of your example. It seems logical enough. Two shapes: divide the first one in sections. Create a scaled slice with the second shape... Could this be done. It could even skin it for you afterwards. Peter

I think this is a good idea. and to control it you have a "display line style" toggle button, like you have an X-ray button at the moment. and in addition to that an option would be useful, where you can set the style to "show hidden line segments", meaning, that with a dotted line for example the dots are shown black and the space inbetween is displayed light gray. otherwise it could be difficult to model (and find little gaps that prevent faces from closing) while having "display line style" switched on. usulally you would model without this feature in any case and when you start texturing the model, you "texture" the line styles as well. so you need to be able to apply line styles like materials.

Thanks for that. It definately not a group or component problem. Further work seems to suggest that I can only select the item at the back of the view I am working in (which is not at all helpful). Jon
