@filibis said: instead of replying in a group here. LOL! Yeah, you won't receive much feedback there... look at when the last post was made in that group and there are no responses. Like I said, Chaos Group does seem to be aware of some bugs that cause geometry in the model to be manipulated during the render and are working on some fixes. I think the most helpful thing would be to send a file that exhibits this behavior directly to support. You're more likely to get a helpful response if they have something specific they can work with, and it will help them troubleshoot the problem. Best, Andy

TL;DR version: Go into LIGHTS -> Sunlight -> Caustic Photons and change the EMIT RADIUS there. The units are in your model units. And the center starts from the sun's location. Full explanation: Vray projects a beam with an 'Emit radius' when rendering caustics. Where that edge ends, you'll see a cut-off line. In 3ds max you can set this emit radius' direction and size visually. Buuuht, not here. In Sketchup the sun is the emit source, so depending on time of day(!) you'll have to fiddle with the emit radius. The attached image has three swimming pools: at 34' from the origin of the blue axis (0,0,0), then again at 60' and again at 90'. At 1:00pm the sun catches all the pools nicely, but the 2d and 3d pools aren't getting enough caustic photons to show caustics properly (top half of image), because the emit radius is set to 700, which doesn't extend far enough. NOTE: The units of this model is inches, so that's 700 INCHES or 58.3'. The yellow circle has a 59' radius, and you can see the 'dark line' cutting through the pool. The second render shows the emit radius set to 1080" (90'). This time the third pool is captured and begins to render caustics. Tadah! [image: oTXY_vray-causticsperemit-radiussetting.jpg]

Have you noticed any patterns that lead up to this? Also: What SU version? What OS?

Displacement in your file? Seriously though, 2.0 is garbage. Upgrade to 3.4 as soon as you can.

You can export the alpha of the render and replace the HDRi with a beach image. The alpha is the black and white channel which you can use to tweak or replace what's behind transparent surfaces. In Frame Buffer window you have a white circle near RGB values, switch that on and save your file. Then in Photoshop or Gimp or whatever post production software you use, replace the black with your desired image of a beach.

Hey Angevin, Something seems wrong, a 1000px render shouldnt be taking hours to finish. I run my test renders that size and they generally take from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to complete...(this is relative to scene and your pc, of course.) Your settings seem cranked up pretty high...in some places...not very balanced either. I don't think there is any reason to ever have a minimum of 2 subdivs if you're using an adaptive sampler. And 24 subdivs is really high....and .05 is really low (not very balanced). Denoiser can steal a lot of detail, so it isnt a good idea to make it do too much work...specially if you're using irradiance map as you primary bounce. I find Light Cache of 1500 tends to be low for our interior scenes, although .05 sample size is a pretty high one. Usually don't go over -1 for Irr max rate... Anyway, its a good idea to start with the built in quality presets, (the 'quality' slider under 'Renderer') Medium is a good start, try high if you think it needs it. Then only change one setting at a time and render a small region with the region render window to see if it helps quality without effecting time too adversely. If you're having crashes and long render times, good to try copying and pasting in place the whole scene into a new SU file. Sometimes there is just something corrupted in the file and this is the only/easiest fix. Since Vray 3.4, I'd say this happens to 1 out of every 4 files!!...yeah 3.4 is still pretty buggy... If you want me to take a look, you can PM me with link to download file and I'll see how it runs on our machines...I'll even hone in some fast quality settings for you. Could give you a good place to start with your settings in the future. Cheers, GD

@zimmerkl said: When I render a photo matched texture in V-Ray it distorts. See Below. Podium renders the same file w/out distortion. Does anybody know if this issue has been corrected in V-Ray 3? Since I got that distortion, I started modeling stuff from scratch. Another option could be "Make Unique Texture" directly in SU, which will make the face gain the single texture of window/ cladding/ whatever... but sometimes Make Unique Texture doesn't work good because the object on which you project the texture, goes white.

Hi Kinga, I would just make the fog color a very very pale blue. The fog amount depends on the scale of the model, so if you have something that's working for a small test, it will show up much darker on a larger size model. Once you have a light blue color, you may still need to lower the fog multiplier. Andy

You render the frames with V-ray and assemble them in photoshop or any post production software which allows merging of consecutive images into a video file.
