    Hi Jonathan,

Under File > Document setup > Paper, at the bottom there is the rendering setting. Leave "Edit quality" something lower or medium (for better performance) and set Output quality to high.

When exporting to raster, High will be 300 dpi, medium 150 dpi and low 96 dpi (I think).
Raster output is what it says; a simple image output. Vector is vector based but will not export textures just as colours. Hybrid will export edges as vector an textures as raster images.

No, SU is written in c++ (or some other variant of c.) I think the ruby api works by calling the relevant c++ functions in SU when a script calls the equivalent ruby method. Id guess a ruby api for LO would work in similar fashion.

To sbsaint, it has certainly been mentioned before. Would be worth sending a PM to bjanzen and seeing if theres any update.

    Thanks!

The Auto-render box, when selected, did the trick. I didn't catch that one, and still unclear about the difference between checked and unchecked, but that solved the problem..thanks for your time..I really appreciate that....thanks too Matteo....

I found that on a Mac, iWork, Numbers (spread sheet) works well,Picture 79.png
It is not a "direct link" in that it is saved as a pdf, first, and I do not keep the "master file" in my scrapbook, as I want the schedules to be able to be modified.
So there is a "master form" in my architectural "templates" folder, that I pull up, make the necessary inputs into, save that file as a pdf, insert it into my layout document, so that it can be "referenced" to in my "documents setup". so that when or if the schedules need to be updated, they will have to be opened in the iWork program, modified, saved as a new pdf, with the same name(I usually have an autosave copy of the original) so that the reference link stays alive and active... and that allows me to make changes and have an adaptive document...
I am on my third set of working drawings, and it is getting to working better.

The red x is typically when a resource can't be loaded. In early days, this was a stand-in for lacking memory resources on large documents... did you get this resolved? If not, PM me.

Here's another workaround for 2d shapes to scale in LayOut:

Do all your drafting in SketchUp on the XY plane.

Import into LayOut,and choose the desired scale.

Render the model in vector, then use the "explode" command to convert the SketchUp model to LayOut native shapes.

Depending on the complexity and overlapping of your shapes, you will have some level of cleanup (joining, splitting lines, etc..).

But then you have LayOut shapes, to scale, and you were able to draw them relatively quickly in SketchUp.

I realize this isn't exactly what you were going for. I've really wanted the same functionality in LayOut (and the guides tool, and the tape measure tool). This is how I've approached similar situations.

A layer could disappear because something is in front of it, or if the layer inspector is hidden (the little eye in the Layers inspector). Things are also drawn in order on each layer, so right clicking items on a layer, you can "Arrange->" and move forward or backward in the drawing order. Also, if you group items on different layers, it will bring them to the front-most layer. If you select an entity, you'll see a little blue dot in the layers inspector to indicate what layer it's on.

Keep posting questions, because I'm sure there are other newbies that don't know but don't ask.

    Tig,
thanks, I will give that a shot as I thought that I had done that all along, as I was building the model.

thanks for the useful plugins too.

I want to show an exploded view of an assembly, using guide lines to show where points will be connected.

In Layout you just draw the lines.... the inferencer will usually even link to the underlying SU model correctly. Set the dash style and you should be done.

If this of great interest, it would be a reasonable feature request to have VCB, er, measurement box input be scaled, so if I drew a rectangle and then typed 3",6" to get a 3" by 6" rectangle, but figured it was 1" = 1', to directly be able to type 30',60' and have it scaled for me. Is that what you're looking for?

    b

I second this - it would be a very useful feature. It would be great to develop this and additional Layout features similar to those in ACD Canvas 11, which incorporates the features red and others have mentioned.

When you are in vector (or hybrid) rendering in LO and explode the SU model, when entering its editing context, you should be able to split certain bits off the vectorwork and move them per paper space with no problem.

if you click on Print Preview, in Layout, do all the pages appear ?
if so, maybe it is your chosen printer that fails.
    cant think of anything else.
    good luck

I think you want to change it in sketchup (via window->styles) then update the layout version (right click->update reference.)

Yes, it was a LayOut issue / question, hence within the LayOut discussions.
And thanks, yes, clipping mask is the way to go, I knew of that but thought it would be more work, ultimately not.
Thanks again for all the insightful support.

    Hi Red,

You could however (after stripping the LO file off everything, true) save it as a template and then when opening another document, apply this template to it.
