I emphatically recommend bonnie's book. LO stood in my HD for years without use. after I bought her book and went through the exercises its usefulness became clear to me and I started using it for all my presentations.

Whoa. Thanks for reminding me about that. I sometimes change scene names to be shorter when I get a lot of them so I can keep them in view--I've had some bad repercussions in LO. Good to remember.

We made a decision long ago to keep a copy of the model inside the LayOut document in case you lost the link. Now you found the file? File->Document Setup->References, select the file. If it doesn't have the correct location to update, you can always help by clicking Relink, and find the location of the file. When you hit Unlink (not recommended) you are using only the file embedded in LayOut. b ps - if you unzip a LayOut file, you'll find your models in the ref/ directory of the unzipped file.

I know red is a serious LO user, as am I. WOW! .... 3 months has passed ... still no answer. One would think the guy developing LO would stick his or her nose into this forum now and then, to see how the latest beta 3 version is working in the real world! I guess the 80,000 members of this forum is not enough to get his or her attention yet: thumbd:

The problem is that if you hide the section cut, it will not cut at all. If you go to the styles settings and uncheck it, you can see. I have no idea if setting this from a plugin would make it behave differently.

Why not save them as pdf. Open them in Acrobat Reader and print them to fit on 8 1/2 x 11. Jeff

@binouze23 said: You can see this triangle next to the render button in the model inspector on the right... Yes, it was there. But Auto was checked and the button disabled. I had to close and reopen the file for it to go away.

Understanding the (3) different modes for displaying the model in LO, and trying to avoid any jaggies when printing, none of the three modes are complete. In Hybrid mode, where we want clean lines and full texture, materials print, any lines inside the model, say an interior wall seen through a transparent window material, will loose all its lines and look like a washed out "raster" mode ...why does LO do this? We know (and accept) the limitations of the drawing default styles and non-realistic rendering...but why in Hybrid mode, where we look for clean lines and full materials display (print), does LO do only some lines while eliminating others all together? Anyone got a a clue why or how to avoid this...I'm about to abandon SU & LO after ten years on this oversight alone.

Hi Matthew, The sketchy styles use raster image files for the edges and are very resolution dependent. I cannot explain it any better than Ross a couple of years ago when this whole forum started so I'd rather link to that post: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=968

I've got extensive Layout tutorials in my Sketchup Pro 8 training series here: http://www.vtc.com/products/Google-SketchUp-Pro-8-Tutorials.htm You'll find the beginning at the section titled "Layout Introduction" and running all the way to the end... I teach it going from the assumption the user has little to no familiarity with a page layout software and work my way up from there. I see you are still on V.6 so this may not fit your needs -- for older versions of Layout (which has changed quite a bit) these may help too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUJSepWhu_Y http://sites.google.com/site/3dbasecamp2008/all-sessions-2008/sketchup-and-layout-tips--tricks Best, Jason.

It really depends on the purpose of the document. A poster is usually meant to be viewed from far away, and I think that there are rules of thumb about the relation of the smallest font used to the overall size of the sheet. On the other hand, a technical drawing is meant for close scrutiny, so font sizes do not have to differ from normal office documents - it's more important to be able to cram in all the necessary information. And documents like architectural working drawing plans have lots of textual info like door tags that have to closely associated with a graphical object but must not cover it, so text styles for things like these tend to be rather small.
