Drawing tools are primitive and need more features, and actions need to be added. Have a real join function and trimming and get rid of the toy like glue and cut tools. They don't work half the time. Better snapping.
2.Fix bugs that adds thick lines (vector and hybrid) Fix bug that makes hidden lines visible in printout (hybrid and vector). Produce smaller pdf output files (no reason they have to be so large--practically unusable without reducing each page afterwards). Fix bug that reduces the size of imported graphics. Make it all faster: rendering and printing. Make a special dialog to choose which pages to print (by page name).

I hate to throw another idea into the mix, especially as I don't have a specific way to do it in my head but,
Could you link the data file to an image in sketchup itself so you can use it in a viewport in Layout. There are various plugins that can make links to external files and there may be something that works better for you. God knows if it would be any use, but it was a thought.

That is a good tip for folks new to SketchUp. I've found that, while it can be done, it is almost never a good idea to modify a scene in the LO viewport. Many changes that you might make to the SketchUp file will not show in viewports whose scenes are shown as "Modified" in the SketchUp inspector. I've never seen a crash of LO that I could attribute to a modified scene but then I don't get them in my LO projects.

Yes, it's true,It was just a prediction (no information), we call it the French flair! πŸ˜› .Well, the new version of SketchUp pro and Layout brings us a lot of good things and especially for DWG imports/exports.

Matt from MasterSketchup wrote a great Layout tutorial: http://sketchucation.com/all-news/834-sketchup-to-layout-for-sketchup-2014

Edited to add a link to his Youtube channel, since you asked for videos!

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have a similar issue with Layout 2016 on a Mac - printing directly from Layout or an exported pdf of the same file shows coloured fills as half tones and the bounding boxes of fills reducing the quality of anything within them e.g. lines, text. On screen, the pdf is fine. I have found that if I open the pdf in Adobe Reader and print from that (rather than Apple's Preview) it prints fine, but that’s adding to the workflow.

What "plugin option" in LayOut? Currently LayOut has no provisions for plugins as SketchUp does and there's no Plugins menu if that's what you're referring to.

Anyone know if there is likely to be any movement / development on this. Being able to export more than one page of a PDF and being able to do this for individual pages in a sequence (1,5,15) rather than as a run of pages in a sequence (1-15) would be great. Also being able to export by file and page name would be incredibly useful - would save a lot of error prone file renaming (post export) and its a feature that lots of other drafting packages have. Id love to be able to name a file, label the pages and choose what pages to export and whether to export them as individual PDFs that have the file name as a prefix and the page name as a suffix eg,
    File name = 123-ABCD-4567
    Page name = 01_A_General Arrangement
    could export as = 123-ABCD-4567 - 01_A_General Arrangement

At the moment I have to break up my PDFs in Acrobat and manually rename them. On projects that have documents with lots of pages and clients that are forever changing their mind, renaiming all the files is very time consuming and its very easy to make mistakes.

Man you really need to use layers, there is little to learn. Sometimes though if I have several objects on the same layer and want to select something at the rear I just select the foreground object and push it to the back - select, move or edit the object you are after and pull the original object back to the front. Or just select the foreground object and hit CTRL+X (cut) then do the backgound object edits and after hit CTRL+V (paste). Unlike SU - Layout pastes object back in the original position. I actually do exactly this for moving stuff from layer to layer - cut > select destination layer > paste - bloody simple!
