@irwanwr said: have you tried to ask in the Kerkythea's forum? i use Kerkythea too, but obviously not as long and as well as you do. if you don't mind i'd like to ask about those people on the image. are they 2D or 3D components? I tried Kerkythea's forums and got a half decent tutorial, but it led to my machine crashing. The image you see above was about half way through my post processing in Photoshop, so the figures are actually shopped in rather than components. You can see the finished image at http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=41658. In the end, I warped the chainlink in place, but would still like to resolve the issue properly.

Thanks everyone. I don't know what the problem was, but I restarted Sketchup and it worked fine after that. So thanks again for all the kind help. @Thomthom; No problem, I know I was asking for alot. And without trying to come off as too rude, would you mind sharing your vray settings for the floorplan? Mine turns out either too bright or too dark, but that might be the problem of the floor plan itself. It's rather large (office building) and I'm not working with any extra light besides the Vray sun and GI. Would you recommend adding extra (a.i.) lighting? EDIT: Just watched the video, I guess that answered all my questions, thanks!

@marked001 said: thanks for the help guys, i've actually gone back to a white studio background now.. and i've got one more question. I've got everything setup and looking good in the interactive rendering of the viewport.. but then when i render in darkroom.. lighting, etc is different and not looking anywhere near the same.. camera, f stop, etc are all set the same.. any ideas of what i'm doing wrong?? There can be differences between IR and the darkroom, usually differences are not that dramatic. Without knowing exactly what's going on, it's hard to give definite answer. For example if you use progressive BSD (biased rendering) in IR with ambient occlusion & light, result can be different to the darkroom with TR2 (unbiased render) or vice versa. I think we better continue in detail in Thea Render forum. http://www.thearender.com/forum/

@skippy_28 said: Just wondering is anyone knows how to hide Emitters from the camera so you get the light but not the geometry that it is coming from. Hey, right click the component, you'll see a sub menu, go to Maxwell, another sub menu will appear, select 'from camera', there's a few other options in there too for invisibility, for example, if you want to illuminate an area and there are windows/mirrors and you don't want the actual source of light to be visible in the reflections, then you'd need to enable 'from reflections/refractions' too. Even though this is a Sketchup forum, I'm allowing this as it has some SU relevance, however I cannot see the images.

@jason_maranto said: :enlight: Yeah, external linking is definitely the way to go for complex organic geometry -- I've always been a fan of Whaat's work and the Indigo plugin is no exception. Thanks for showing this feature off for us Best, Jason. Thanks Jason, and thanks Jeff for showing this feature. I am hoping to finally get around to doing some video tutorials for this sometime. It's been on my TODO list far too long.

I appear to have solved it by asking VRay to tile the bitmap.

You just change the sun in Sketchup, the vray sun takes into account the color of the sky at different parts of the day. You may need to adjust your camera exposure for morning or evening light or your render may come out too dark. Best, Andy

With 64 bit you will be able access to more memory, so you will be able to render higher resolution images and higher poly models. i7 processors are multithreaded and Windows will see 8 cores, so Vray see's 8 cores and you will get 8 render buckets. I found that my i7 renders at least twice as fast if not more than my last workstation which was a high end Xeon. I cant imagine that SU will be slower in a 64 bit environment. I was using 32 bit Photoshop for the longest time and when I went to 64 bit it was night and day. Much faster and more responsive, even it its just an illusion because I access to more memory.

@gaieus said: Those are good materials. Have you installed and are you applying them in Kerkythea? Pete: don't tease him! Yeah, I installed the .map.zip and installed the library, then applied the texture. I guess it's just the settings from more experienced modellers I'd like to know. And Pete: Funnily enough, you are actually dead on! The project is a very small corner lot in Manila, where the client wanted to have two floors of economic programme, then two floors of residential occupation. The total floor area available is very small, compromised further by Filipino building regulations that stipulate a 2 metre setback on the ground floor, and a 1 metre setbak on the first floor. Due to the compromised size, rather than trying to figure out how to separate the two programmes (a gym is now located on the ground floor) - it was much more interesting to literally put the hair dressing/massage/beauty programme alongside the 'internet cafe' as a result of the design process. The building is geared towards economic and social intensity. The facade is wrapped in a chainlink fence, which acts as a safety barrier, allows maximum views and sunlight, and fulfils the client's request for prominent advertising on the corner lot. Fabric adverts are simply wrapped around the facade and cable tied back (I'm a sucker for simple details!). The fence allows plants to grow up it, turning the corner into a sort of green fuzzy screen, punched out by advertising. The barrier also acts as a crucial safety feature, putting a barrier between flying debris in typhoons and residents, an annual occurance. Cheers!

I am affraid there is no magic method! Only training again and again! The other solution is to give your files to some specialists if it's a time's problem! Of course this last solution will be maybe not free Except if you have good specialist friends

About the Mainstream like V-ray.... Have you ever teached Autocad users to Sketchup? They only ask me why Sketchup has not this or that function and tend to make Sketchup to be a primitive Software. They are often sluggish to change the way of thinking. No offending, but I have my autocad spinsters along my courses So Autocad will be the leader in the next years...that's mainstream. But that's in general with human thinking. V-Ray stays longer on the market and have a great customer community. So it is Mainstream, too. In the Render Community, where Professionals are working, the names are beside each other. Who needs speed tend to V-Ray, who needs quality tend to Maxwell.( biased and unbiased are quite different to compare ) The V-Ray comunity is larger by nature, not more. You'll find a lot of Help for V-Ray - here in the Forum too. Let's say single supported I thought the same about Maxwell and be on the track to learn it deeper. Now the Pluggin is really well implemented- thanks to JD- and well documented - thanks Jason too - so it makes it a lot easier now. Although - shame to me - I'm Maxwell owner since the alpha stages Congretulation for a 6- core I7
