Hi there, I have the Maxwell Render suite and I've never applied Emitters using the Studio, only the plugin (you can still use the plugin with the suite). I find that for what I'm trying to achieve, that I don't need to use the Studio for Emitters. To get a 'bulb' to emit; I apply a material to the component, then using the Maxwell plugin within SketchUp I select 'emitter'. I then choose the wattage etc. To illustrate the beam of light against a wall, I create a small sphere, again apply a material to it and using the Maxwell plugin, I choose IES Emitter. Then I select one of the IES files (these would have downloaded with Maxwell Render and can be found in the Maxwell folder in your C Drive). Hope this helps! Anita

Thank you Andy for the info, I look in to that right now. Hi Chon, thank you for the info, I am familiar with the video but render in a cloud day is very dificult since the sky is almost white and there is sun but without power, at least alsways is like that here in Seattle. thanks again both for the info. kalu.

I would turn up the IOR on the reflection and refraction layer for the wine glasses to 1.8. I would also add a little color to the glass by making the refraction color a very light gray. Then set the IOR for glass on the cabinet to something lower like 1.2.

he says he checked for duplicate faces, but I agree with you - it looks completely like z-fighting. Could be that some component got copied twice - it's happened to me before... You can confirm by altering your viewpoint and see if the pattern changes. With z-fighting it does - as it's view dependent.

I had a similar issue some time ago. In my case I didn't need to explode all nested elements, just the inner one where the image is. I am guessing that this is what Gaieus meant when he said "do not explode the component though but edit and explode the image inside". Seems like you just didn't go "deep" enough when you tried the first time, so my guess is that you don't need to explode 3 times, but just once on the inner nested element which is the image entity. Doing it this way you maintain the advantages of a component.

@dkendig said: I'm surprised 3ds worked better than the collada format (*.dae), I thought that was supposed to be the end all be all format these days. Collada just doesn't seem to be that well supported. It seems like it breaks regularly with Blender updates. @pugs1983 - I'm fine with the blender interface as it is v2.5 and higher. It's the rotate, zoom, pan that's been "fixed" from earlier versions that makes it easy to use.

@adeeb88 said: i get error message of the activation for v-ray Thanks ADEEB [image: ?_task=mail&_action=get&_uid=2781&_mbox=INBOX&_part=2] Can't see your image. Seems to be linked to your mailbox. When you post you can upload images to the forum, see the "Upload attachment" tab under the textbox. As for whatever error it is, when it's an activation issue you need to contact ChaosGroup Support. They can help you out with that.

@valerostudio said: Displacement kills CPU, use it sparingly. Also, try to get away with using lower subdivs and and a higher edge length. On high res renders you can sometimes get away with an edge of 20+ pixels. Try it out. Thanks for good advice but in this situation i used edge length 1,0 without 'use global' option to make it real, full of details. Finally for the high resolution render i made it with fur plugin. it looks better i think:) [image: c39F_forum1.jpg]

There is documentation out there if you look through the net. Between all the videos on the Chaos YouTube page, the manuals that exist for the plug-in, and other V-Ray for Max sites, you can get a good handle on this plug-in. I have to admit it took me a good year before I was comfortable with it. So plan on putting some serious time into it. But once you know V-Ray, you can use that if you move on to MAX or Blender, so it pays off. I would recommend it highly.

It is quite possible to do great looking interior renders with Modo. It just isn't as fast as Vray. That being said, it does have its strengths -flexibility, ease of use, the preview renderer- and I'm guessing that the introduction of light portals will prove most useful. I am dying to try it out.

@valerostudio said: Uhhhh. This makes absolutely no sense? Why are the forums here? To answer questions about the software we use. Just because we ask questions about Maxwell is no reason to ban a user to answer questions. Are you JOKING??? Valerostudio, Your 'Why are the forums here?', is a good question. Have you thought that an answer might be, because a dedicated group of people put in many, many hours of work for little or no remuneration to the extent that it costs them money / time and they have to secure support from commercial 3rd party entities that gain from exposure on these forums? I won't go into the ins and outs of what happened with NextLimit (Maxwell for Google SketchUp) as that's confidential. However, I can advise that matters have now been resolved to everyone's satisfaction and I see Jason will be continuing to advise / help in the areas he is expert in. So I am now locking this topic and suggest we all get on with more productive matters. Mike

@unknownuser said: Podium doesn't run inside of SketchUp, and there's a 64 bit version available. So that's not the issue, I think. Correct I am running 64 bit Podium v2.8 and it does not render within SketchUp. The computer i have for rendering is specifically design for crunching numbers and rendering, only thing it needs is a better GPU (which im working on) in the hopes to be using Lumion, just need to get work to sign off on it. I will get in contact with Podium to see what the problem could be, I might try rendering a basic model and see how large i can go though Gaieus, Installing Kerkythea 64bit was a little tricky as not all the files actually get installed but once it is and you render in it, it flys compared to the 32bit version!

Yes, true, I also noticed it - however it was already too late (I told you did not do too much justice to LUp) The panorama was rendered at 8192x4096 spherical (extremely fast when the tour tool was already active) but for technical reasons, I resampled it to 8000x4000.

We would be happy to look at the model to find out why it isn't rendering in Shaderlight. If you would like to email support@artvps.com we can try and find out what is going on. If it is a large model we can go through options of getting it over to us when you email. Martin

Amazing! I guess it is only a matter of time that we'll be able to see full rendered animations on our real desktops. Just imagine a videogame played like that!

Here is an update, the emitter was a single plane at the top of the shade 3cm square. I think the effect is quite successful although i'd like to have seen a bulb as the source. [image: nnYa_Starkbedscene.png]
