I've tried 401, and it was great. I almost modeled a car. If I have to choose a tool for modeling, this is it. I didn't understand shader tree, but it wasn't enough time. The render output looks amazing. Minus interior shots. Actually, I write this down, and I didn't followed you link. Well, what can I say, I liked modo, and I get a little excited right now, so my comment looks.....odd.

It is quite possible to do great looking interior renders with Modo. It just isn't as fast as Vray. That being said, it does have its strengths -flexibility, ease of use, the preview renderer- and I'm guessing that the introduction of light portals will prove most useful.
I am dying to try it out.
