BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@tig said: Looks like the text was exploded into lines that would then be importable [although the file size gets very big!]. It's good idea to edit the CAD file to remove unwanted/unused detail that won't get imported [like hatching], then purge/audit before trying the import. If you save the DWG as a DXF [say r2004] then you can import that DXF's raw geometry [keeping the CAD origin], then use my 'importDXFtext' script to import the CAD text part only, it comes in as 'flat' 3d-text, using the equivalent size/font/style/location/layer/color etc wherever possible. The two imports should then overlay properly; so that then grouping them as one you can move them back to a sensible SKP origin... TIG, I've managed to import my text using 'importDXFtext', but only once. I tried to import the text once again and it didn't work and I looked for other solution. The problem with the text is that you don't have any common origin point between imported lines and imported text - sometimes it is crucial to have the same reference point to align drawings. Dear All, As TIG said it is a bunch of vectors – approx. 15,500 of them, but it works ! I don’t have enough time to do the ‘proper’ tutorial, but I have listed the software and steps taken. You need the following: • AutoCAD (LT is fine) • PDF Creator • Any PDF to DWG Converter • SketchUP PRO Step 1 – Open DWG, explode all objects, change all fonts to simplex.shx Step 2 – Draw rectangle around the drawing – would be used to scale the drawing in SU Step 3 – Print to PDF – I used PDF Creator Step 4 – Save the drawing as exploded DWG – we will use the drawing as ‘Scale Reference’ in SU Step 5 – Download ‘Any PDF to DWG Converter’ Step 6 – Open the PDF with 'Any PDF to DWG Converter', set in ‘Options - Centreline’ and ‘Convert Now’ – it could be converted to DWG or DXF – I used AutoCAD 13 • I didn’t manage to have the right scale but, the rectangle from Step 2 would come to the rescue later (see Step 10) Step 7 – Open SU PRO, import ‘exploded DWG from Step 4’ and make group Step 8 – Open 2nd session of SU PRO and import ‘converted DWG from Step 6’ and make group Step 9 – You could copy one of the drawings (Select and Ctrl+C) and paste to the other (Ctrl+V) Step 10 – Scale using ‘anchors’ – simply drag ‘edge to edge’ of previously drawn rectangle to match the converted drawing size Regards

Bricks are a pain. Mason is a bigger pain. Using TGI and Artisan UV spraying helps. Including SU texture alignment option. Oh and pink cows do exist! [image: BhkC_Pinkpig1.jpg] [image: A0jj_Pinkpig2.jpg] [image: A7ap_pinkcow.jpg]

@deanlegg said: Hi all Anyone recommend a good chair while designing , mine makes me hunch my back I seem to try and get in the screen Are blow up gym balls any good? Thanks dean Hand to elbow straight. Arm at 90 degrees. Top 3/4 of the LCd should be at the eye level. Memorize shortcuts without looking at keyboard. Get a good mouse with many buttons on it so you can assign it for shortcuts. Chair should have good back support and legs should not be dangling from chair. 90 degrees is best. If you are getting lower back pain, then ball is good. upper back then the tips above will help. Never tried that chair , looks interesting but his position is all wrong. You shouldnt be looking that down. Oh, and pls for the love of good try to refrain from using a laptop for drawing ,etc. Get an adjustable height CAD LCD screen.

Just tried uploading a simple, 20 second model and everything went as normal. I remember my only problems in the past with uploading models were with my virus protection software. SU wasn't authorised to upload to the internet and that was causing the problem.

It sounds like you've got it. And, yes, even though Layer 0 is shown as visible, the primitives won't show if the component/group "wrappers" have different layer associations and those layers are turned off. Think of a Romulan Bird of Prey with its cloaking device turned on. The ship is still there. You just don't see it. And a sure way to drive yourself crazy is to make other layers active.

Risky stuff. I've a tweaked version that avoids all base class messing on... If anyone wants a copy PM me... I'll ave a copy if you don't mind Tig

@gaieus said: Hi Patrick, I would first wade through all my plugin folder to remove any renderin related rb (or rbs) file manually. Uninstalling the application itself may not remove these files, too. If SU is still unstable, you can safely reinstall it and all your custom added plugins should remain intact. **As for the forums - it won't disappear. ** Hi Gaieus just an update to let you know how it went! I did as you said and removed all render related rb files and it appears to have done the trick. I did not have to re-install SU so maybe I think that Render[in] 2 clashed with my other render programs, I had Podium and Shaderlight installed. Anyhow all's well and thanks again for your help. Thanks also to Annsi and Catamountain from the google forum for taking the time to reply to my call for help!

@fakircho said: I don't really understand what the issue is? It just a disk image, of course you can keep the dmg file. You can make backups of it until your heart is content and you can save them anywhere you want. The issue is I have no idea what they are or how they work, as this is a return to a Mac for me. So, if I can hang on to this and it will work without a web connection or access to the big G, great. Thanks.

I wonder if AD plans to bundle this with AutoCAD Mac like they do with AutoCAD on the PC? That is that you get Inventor Fusion with your copy of AutoCAD.

@thomthom said: @fuzzion said: I am not really sure what to make of this. You didn't really explain what you where talking about until towards the end of the thread... Helps to start of with the actual topic. Regardless, there's a loooong thread here on the topic: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44881 @fuzzion said: What will happen to Vray for sketchup. Devin said that they see no reason for much to change. They will keep working on VfSU. @fuzzion said: Are there plans to continue the plugin scheme. Appears so. Their announcement said they want to continue with SketchUp as a platform. So I think/hope it might in fact make it better. @fuzzion said: 3)Does Trimble plan to improve on Sketchup or use newly acquired IP rights to start a new software? Don't think they'll start a completely new software. (Depends on what you mean by n"new" (complete rewrite?)) If they'll change the SketchUp package? Who knows... The SketchUp team has said that SketchUp will be SketchUp. Have a look at the thread I linked to. Any information out there on the topic will be referred to there. Thanks for the input

Thanks for the response Mike. But I will suggest that even before I sign a contract on a job, I like to tell my "future" clients that "I'm looking forward to working with them". Regardless, of the closing date, it looks, as far as I can tell, like a "done deal". (apology's for all the quotation marks). Honestly, I hope the deal is closed soon, so we SU users can get a better handle on how it will affect us. Chris

I am using a PC, so not perfectly; maybe on yours. What are you using? OS, RAM, Graphics card, SU version?
