Are you using a Macbook? I've had many problems with Sketchup and Layout crashing on my Macbook.

How long have you given it to finish? Vector rendering can take a very long time.
If you can get us the file we can see what's going on.

    Hi Rogue and welcome!

The style (weight, colour etc.) of very single line can be changed in your LO documents from the Shape styles dialog (you will need to preselect what you want to change).

Also the styles of the SU drawing can be altered once you explode your model in vector or hybrid rendering mode but be aware that this will ultimately break the connection with the original SU model (practically it will make a 2D "snapshot" of what you can see in the SU model window).

As for your cylinder, I am not sure what's happening there although have a clue; in SU, go to your style dialog > in model > edit > edge settings and set profiles to 1 pixel (so that curved profiles will also have an outline but not thicker than a "normal" edge).

Layout works with scenes and styles. So try to make a scene updated with hidden section planes and it should work.

TIG means that you can edit a png image in an external editor and add transparency to it. You cannot interactively adjust its transparency in LO so you have to find out how much you want to adjust it in your image editor and then get stuck to it.

    Hi
Can anyone tell me whether its possible to draw dotted lines, centre lines and hatching in layout

Yes for the dotted (and dashed and dash-dot etc) lines, yes for centre lines (depending on what you precisely want) no for hatching unless you do it manually.

    @rhysifan said:

Also, is it possible to get an A0 page size in Layout?

I'm pretty sure you can set any size you like. I've been using 36"x24" for my house plans since that matches my local print shop's big printer.

Yes, as there is a 3D Warehouse for 3D SketchUp models, there could be a 2D Warehouse for LayOut content. No-one seems to have started such a venture yet.

That could easily be done (I mean sharing LO templates) although they are rather specialized and personalized most of the times so this is not what other people generally do.

Another way is to open one document and save it as scrapbooks from the file menu
. Open the other document and just drag and drop them out of the scrapbook gallerie. It's quit easy to do πŸ˜‰

About section plane to display or not (and the section to display or not), you may create a style (from the house icon, save it by right click on your style library) with these "forced" options (checked).

Because the style library is shared with Layout, you may fix the problem from Layout by selecting the special style. A lot of time saved and very ergonomic solution !

I have saved for example these styles :

Colored fine with section (only section displayed, without section planes) Colored fine without section (no section & section planes displayed)

    Thanks for your reply.

I must have been confused between "Grid" and "Object Snap".

Now I can align my line with my model. (overlap)

Thanks again for your answer. It was ice water to my thirst!

    Hey David,

Is there any additional information available on the XML structure used?

    regards

Sorry, I must have missed this reply, also sorry, I don't have a good source on documentation for this, but if you work on a copy of your files so there is nothing to mess up, you may have good luck searching the text file for an object you have to find how it is referenced in the code.

    Hi Keea,

This is a known issue (maybe would not call it a bug but a missing feature the development team did not think about when creating the dimension tool for LO).

    See a solution here:

    and the same here:

Cool. I get it now, thanks.

It takes forever to render if there's a lot of edges, but it makes for a really nice output when I set the Model Window output choice to either Vector or Hybrid (depending on the amount of surfaces) and set the Export/ Options quality to High.

Control (or Command in Windows) Click on the view. Change scale in the contextual menu. You can also change scene, standard view, and perspective here.

Note that if you are editing the view, scale will not come up.

I'm still trying to figure out resolution....
