You probably have your stuff on a layer called "on every page". Check your layer settings in LayOut, in the layers drawer in the tray.

I've had this happen a lot in M2! Wish I new why; I'm sure it's something simple 😳

Set your reference on its own layer and lock it. Also uncheck Auto render in Preferences/general.

In LO select your model in the paper space.
In 'model dialog/styles/line weight'. choose line weight.

All above are correct. The problem you are having is your Layout scene is probably set to "last saved scene", instead of the appropriate saved scene in SU. When you generate a PDF in layout it automatically updates the reference, so if the last saved reference is not a section saved scene, then you get the pdf shown as it was last saved in SU.

Set your scene in SU with section, name the scene and save. In layout, in the Sketchup Model dialogue, select the same scene and render. Export PDF and it should show correctly.

  • Best way to do engineering dimensions (0.0001")

I just ran into the same problem! The model is drawn to 0.001" precision but there's no matching precision in layout. I can't simply convert to metric because Layout's mm precision is limited to 0.1mm. sigh

I did post a reply on the Layout wish list; so, hopefully that will help get it fixed.

regarding the topic of dimensioning & SketchUp for engineering, I thought producing a dimensioned and annotated 3D PDF would be a great & simple way to pass the model along to collaborators and contract manufacturers πŸ˜„

unfortunately, it seems the current 3D PDF export pluggins don't work so well for this:

The SimLab 2.4 pluggin exports only 2D plane 3D geometry; it does NOT export points, lines, guides, text, nor dimension entities - which makes it practically impossible to create a fully commented/annotated 3D model in PDF. 😞

However, with Adobe Acrobat, you can enable the 3D PDF for analysis & measurement within the free Acrobat Reader which is pretty cool. ...but measuring is still a pain compared to having the dimensions already called out...

I see, but I think the available texture patterns available in sketchup are far superior to ACAD hatch patterns.

This isn't the greatest example, but gets the point across.

    Sonder,
Wow. I like this concrete pattern for member cross-sections.
But I don't have it in the original concrete textures.
Where can I get the texture?

Compare the overall pixel count (width & height) both in the jpg and in PS.

    Unfortunately it's normal.

Thanks Dave R. Do not is information that I expected, but so is confirmed another limitation of the LO3, and works to almost starting from zero.
    Thank you and good day.

Oh, well that's not great news, I thought I was onto something there. I guess I'll have to revert to my other software.

It would be a really good feature to have in future though...

    Dave,

That's a cool model. the animation of the scenes is fun. Anyway, I seem to be missing something. Was there supposed to be a scene showing just a window with section cut?

edit. I thought to look at the rest of the model, not just the scenes. Still I see no section cuts. OK maybe you are not doing that anymore.

Concerning dimensions, they do not seem to have their own layer. Put the dimensions on a layer to be on or off (visible) in specific scenes.

    @unknownuser said:

don't get the viewport setup comment. The way I am trying to set the layout is by reducing the drawing layers down to just the window, centering the drawing, editing to a point where I can take a section, take a section slice, revolve it and then send to layout.

You didn't mentions one step. You need to SAVE a Scene for use in LO. Save the view you set up as a "Scene", save the file and "Send to LayOut".

It's just the first page that crashes my Mac every time, except on "medium". Also crashes on "Print". Other pages seem fine at any quality. Maybe it's the image itself that could be brought into LO in a different format (I assume it is a graphic output of a renderer).

I don't think you can do that. You have to hit all of the views on each page and set them all to the desired render mode. It does seem like an interesting feature, though.

Thanks, Sonder. You make an excellent point about liability. This is a deck for my parents' house so I wasn't in that mindset, but I should be- anything could happen in the next 10 years...

At some point, however, there must be times when you have to block information from others at a certain scale- do you import it all into SU and bring it in that way?

By the way, this is Lindy from Kings Beach- you can run but you can't hide!

Haha - too funny. The only time that I bring information in is for the topogrpahic survey. That I bring in SU and view it through Layout. I do export ACAD info all the time for structural engineers, but have never had the need to do the reverse.

My workload will be better next week.

Glad you are on here. This is a great site for learning!
