    • Layout - extremely slow on PC

      Hi there,

I've worked with SU/LO for years on my mac, never having a complaint about speed of modeling and drafting. I've just had to switch over to a PC for work, and SU is working perfectly, but Layout moves excruciatingly slow. Just to zoom in and out of the page, to move a text box around, to label anything, all takes numerous seconds of processing time.

My computer specs should be fine, I think... Windows 7, 2.53 Ghz Xeon CPU, 4.00 GB RAM, 64 bit OS.

I have Layout set to low rendering quality for editing. But it really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the embedded models, in that every single action, even moving text around, makes it chug along.

This is a pretty major hangup. Any tips or leads are appreciated!

      thanks...

    • Layout line weight - PC vs. Mac

I've just had to start using a PC for work, after using Sketchup/Layout on a Mac for years... so far, mostly everything is working well. One big oddity though, is that in the PC version of layout, the relative line weights appear differently depending on how far zoomed out of the model you are. When I'm zoomed in close, everything looks right - a 0.2 line is 10X thinner than a 2 line. But when I zoom out, everything normalizes, and I can't tell any difference. This makes it hard for drawing up our CD sets.

Any ideas? Is there a setting to change in order to make it what-you-see-is-what-you-get?

      Thanks!

      Aaron

    • Layout problem - front/back order not working...

I'm having a sporadic issue that is quite disruptive to the Layout workflow... any help is greatly appreciated!

Occasionally, I can't control the front/back order of elements, especially lines/dimensions drawn over the model. I can select the line and say 'bring to front', I can select the model/drawing and say 'send to back', but no matter what, the line/dimension will stay hidden behind the model...

      suggestions?!

      thanks!

    • Layout Dimensions changing from reality?

Frustrating issue going on, where a model dimensioned in LO seems to have its values changing spontaneously... For instance, I'll dimension a road cut at 30', everything looks good, I go on to some other work, and come back to see that the road is dimensioned at 1 1/2". This is happening somewhat frequently all over the model. Can you lock dimensions? Anything to be aware of here? I also notice a similar effect occasionally when I'm pulling a dimension string off of a given element, and if I don't place it in just the right way, it will read something like 1" instead of its real measurement... as if LO is dimensioning the actual 2D page space in the document itself, not the SU model. Does this happen if the dimension string isn't perfectly snapped to a point in the SU model?

      Thanks!

(while I'm asking, anyone know of a way to type a center-line symbol, where the C and L overlap?)

    • Crashing

I've been having problems with SketchUp crashing quite frequently... It doesn't give any error messages, just plain quits..

I'm running it on a new MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM... should be plenty of machine to support SketchUp without issues. any settings I need to change to improve stability?

    • Erasing/creating faces/surfaces

Is there a quick and easy way to erase a bounded face, to leave only the edges? For instance, if I create a rectangle, then want to have holes in it... I can push/pull an interior bounded area out and then erase the protruding edges to accomplish this, but it seems like there should be an easier way.

Also, how about creating a new face? I sometimes have troubles when connecting new lines around an empty space, in that they won't actually join up to create a solid face in the area. Upon close zooming, it appears that every line is actually connected and on the same plane... is there an easy way to correct minor errors, if in fact the issue is that the lines aren't quite bounded, or off plane?

These two things would help a lot... thanks for any inputs!
