Found the solution: I am using a second monitor on my MacBook. When I disconnect the monitor, the panels get scattered out of the monitor space and don't return after I reconnect. Go to Mac system preferences -> monitors -> arrange and there you'll find a check bos "synchronize monitors". That brings back all panels in the monitor space. Good Luck!

I use clipping masks for all my sections, elevations and interior elevations. It works perfectly. You can assign the mask a line style as well which works great for interior elevations.

copy shortcuts.xml from this location: C:\Users\mdurant\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp 2016\LayOut\shortcuts.xml to this location: C:\Users\mdurant\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp 2017\LayOut\shortcuts.xml Do NOT copy the .plo files, that will crash LayOut.

@utiler said: Cheers for the overview, Rich. Might have to look at what InDesign can do for my work. So many bloody programs from renderers, image editors, work processors... so days I just want to pick up a pen! Mate, you can then imagine things this end, doing a LOT of marketing, print, website stuff on top of that! My mind these days seems in total overload. But truthfully Indesign took a lot of time away from all that as SO much can be done so easily.

I've not seen that sort of thing before. It has been a very long time since I used LO3, though. Perhaps you could upload the LayOut file and we can take a look to see if we can figure it out.

or someone can write a smart routine/plugin/extension to be used in LO, seeing that the LO SDK is available (LO is written in C++, correct?)

Mate I certainly vote for such functionality - I'd imagine easily achieved as "more options" in the accuracy dropdown on the dimension dialogue! I do all my floor planning direct in layout and are forever manually adjusting dimension values.

I'd like to see something similar... And I'd like to see PDF export that does not include any pages that you have turned off with the 'include in presentation' toggle. Maybe add that to the layers, and get it to work for screen presentations as well as anything you print / export.

Not that I know of but making your own template isn't difficult or time consuming.

In reference to Sonder's suggestion, it works. At least with LO 2016 linked to SKP 2015. Viewport was set to raster.

Hey Jason- I just downloaded your .zip archive and successfully recreated a LayOut file from it. I didn't need to delete any pages, and I was able to open and view all of the pages in the recreated document. You are correct that a LayOut file is just a .zip archive of all of the .xml files. I will PM you a link to my fixed version of the file on DropBox. -m

@brettsichellodesign said: It is possible to link dimension lines to vector lines in LO (make sure sketchup renders to vector or hybrid in layout). Then click the dimensions on the vector lines. I try to avoid this problem by never changing my view of the scene in SU before updating the scene. Then make sure your 'viewport' is on a layer which you keep locked as much as possible. This will stop your SU model moving around the page every time you update your scene to LO. Hope that makes sense/helps. Thanks. I will give it a shot.

We do have them set on every drawing. It would just be cool if we could make changes across all files. Like maybe an insertable LO file as an x-ref or something.

upgrading a mac? Are you sane? I heard it's perfect so no need for hardware changes. I love imperfection so I use Windows... Linux should be better but no Sketchup. I can tell you that, with windows, changing from a laptop with an nVidia 425M with 1Gb to a Titan X with 12 Gb, simply changed everything I knew about LO and SU. I feel it's a different software, and though it has limitations, performance has increased so drastically I cannot conceive how I could cope with it.

It turns out that it has to do with geometry on layer 0. I was getting lazy and left a few items there and in fact my linework meant for the vector viewport was also still on layer 0. However, even after tidying up the remedy didn't show in Layout on 'model update' but until I'd restarted Layout. Thanks for getting me over the hump again, guys.

While you're creating the rectangle, or immediately after creating it, use the arrow keys - up & down - to change the curvature. There's no way to make rounded-corner polygons other than drawing them by hand as Richard suggests. There's more info here: https://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000199 -m

Hi Nick and Charlie, I think I ultimately figured out what was happening. I am not 100% certain it will not happen again, but we shall see. For now, please consider this resolved, and thank you for your responses. Eric
