Thank you for answering my question i was able to figure out what was wrong. i had set the axis on my component in a way that the component attributes interface already assigned a rotation around one of the axis. and for some reason when you change one of the rotation attributes it sets the other rotation attributes back to zero. This is an example of the component axis that I set. if you try to rotate the part with component attributes strange things happen.

@pongo1471 said: love the quote in your sig Chris ^_^ well chears for the reply, gues it will have to do then im using the dynamic creation to help my development in building mesh's for IMVU (its simmilar to second life) anywhere you want furniture you need a furniture node and each needs to be named and numberd correctly, its just the same name with an increasing number, was just hoping there was something to overide the naming veriation and then just have 1++ or something in there to show thats the veriable each time to incriment well ill keep an eye on the thread in the hopes someone knows any different ^_^ Well if you are only looking at furniture nodes on IMVU the just copy and paste making each one unique as you go then use Neo's plugin. It's found in the SketchUp groups down loads sticky. if you are wanting all types.. I am working on and having some selected people beta a plugin based on TIG's and Neo's Plugin. It does require copy and pasting and making unique and naming seating nodes with special coding.. but it seems to work. At least so far.. will post more info if it does work out. By the way that's my IMVU name too!

@chris fullmer said: It might have to do with HOW you uploaded it. You need to right click on the component, then choose "Save As" and save it somewhere. Then find that file and open it. Then upload it the warehouse like that. Then it will be uploaded as a DC. Chris It was the "Save As" step that I missed. All is working fine now. Thanks!

Just to verify, are you trying to make the cabinet so that you can scale it on all 3 axis? - make it taller, deeper, wider? The "groove" in the side walls is the "dado", right? So it seems like the side walls are set up correctly so that they don't get any thicker as you scale the cabient wider. But if you scale it to be deeper, then yes the dado stretches. So you will need to make the last few inches into their own component with a fixed dimension, then have the rest of the walls scale. So that way the dado will not stretch. Does that make sense? If not, I can try to mock up a model based on your model a little later tonight. Its a good looking model! Chris

Yes, I highly agree with August. This is a very very useful dynamic component. Doing woodworking as a hobby (almost full time) It is true that we spent much time drawing doors and this DC will save me quite a bit of time Tank you Eric

@tasman said: Hi Tim I note you are using a Mac. I am having the same trouble, login OK through web browser, and can download etc. but unable to upload as SU does not make the connection. I think this is a Mac specific problem, and I too would like to see it fixed if anybody has any ideas. Tasman My problem has been resolved. I believe it was a proxy issue with our servers. I was always able to download models via access to the warehouse by SketchUp. I wasn't able to upload models. All is well now.

@chris fullmer said: Also, once you get into making them, we started a thing called the DC exploration series a few months ago. The idea was to post a topic and a challenege and then see what kind of interesting solutions we could come up with. There is a link at the top of this forum. I think we worked on color, rotation/movement, and scaling/copying. You might check out those threads. They are pretty interesting. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=14566 Chris thanks a lot for your suggestions

thanks Anssi. it seems to me though, that your Dynamic Component works if you scale it in only one direction. the other direction is unscalable. that was the problem I was fighting with. now we needed a way to implement the same behaviour to both sides.

Thanks for your reply. Picture 1 is what I get if I click on the component and then open Component Attributes. If I then deselect the component and then select it again, I get Picture 2, but nothing is functional. When I click on "Add Attribute", nothing happens. Thank you for your help. And here's a picture of a DC config box and the menu open side by side. In the configuration window, you'll see the attributes color_options, name_option, size_options. Those get alphabetized automatically. And the order that they appear in the configuration window is the order they will appear in the menu window. So to get them to change order, I would need to add a 01 02 03 in front of the in the desired order. That does not affect the user friendly name that appear in the menu. @gaieus said: I could imagine a DC "stretching" in a certain direction then you could explode it and use drop.rb to get all the nested pieces onto the ground. Would that be "enough"? Note that it couldn't be modified afterwards so this is a final (and non reversible, destructive) way. I think in this situation the drop.rb plugin could be used in a non destructive way. Instead of exploding the DC, it could just be edited by double-clicking on it. I threw together a test file and screen capture. Kevin, I would be curious if this would be a reasonable solution. Scale the DC in the attached skp, then edit it, then apply the drop.rb plugin (also attached just in case you don't have it). Sorry, forgot to record mouse cursor in screen capture. [flash=720,405:10e8y6vn]http://www.youtube.com/v/cUAcXObu2mQ&fmt=22&hl=en&fs=1[/flash:10e8y6vn] *edit I should add that this only really works as long as the z attribute is not formula derived (black) Regards, Matt Chambers concept3D solartest.skp drop.rb

You can make Dynamic components if you have SU version 7 Pro only. If you have the free version, you can use Dynamic components, but can not make them or view the "source code". But with pro, you can see how they work. Do you have Pro? Chris

ok, I got something working. 3 cars, each have their wheels rotating. One just rotates wheels. One also drives forwards and backwards. One opens and closes its doors. Check out the code, its pretty simple. All animation is being driven by a single OnClick for each car. Check out the video and download the model to see the DC values. Note, there is no sound in the video. Hope it helps, [flash=542,353:6a3bkcko]http://www.chrisfullmer.com/chrisfullmer/forums/3_cars_DC_demo.swf[/flash:6a3bkcko] Chris three DC cars.skp
