Thanks Paul. Some good things to consider. I appreciate it. The design of the kitchen was pre-made by Kitchenmaid and is a model available from the 3D Warehouse, but without lights and refrigerator. I didn't modify it much except to add the refrigerator, microwave, the fruit bowl, cutting board, coffee cup, dishes, lights and cutting board. All the other counter things were already in place. (wait, that sounds like a lot) The model geometry itself is a mess. I spent some time cleaning it up, but just gave up after I found more and more things wrong with it. Materials especially. This really wasn't a design exercise so much as a render exercise. The track lighting on the cabinets is a good example. It should be glare. That was the effect I was trying to achieve, not as a wanted effect, but to see what the render program would do, yet the render program didn't do it. The lights over the sink are strange too. They should light up the interior of the metal shade, yet they barely do. I think his is why several people have asked about the light sources. I need to look further into that. Material settings are all me. I did not spend more time with the pre-set materials that came with the model. All that said, I really do appreciate your feedback. It's those kind of tips that will help me avoid future mistakes when I start to make my own interiors. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. (as well as compliments of course ) So again thanks for the critique and let me know if you see any other things that can be improved in my future renders. I'm really trying to move beyond just lighting. I'm trying to achieve an "atmosphere" effect, but I know that just comes with practice.

I like the design of the main home/cabin. In my opinion the garage and free standing... garbage can hut...? do not fit style-wise with the home. That is just an opinion and of course everyone has their own:) The thing I notice about your render is the composition. It feels a bit flat. as if the building were sitting on a perfectly flat plane and just rotated a bit. I would suggest rotating the view a little so you are looking slightly up at it. It feels almost as if a 2d view was just spun on the vertical axis. Nice curb and driveway. Although I think the asphalt is too light. Another thing that would help the composition would to be to add some foreground plants or bushes and plant some trees behind the camera to cast some shadows on the lawn. The lawn as it is, is too flat and too lime green to be convincing. How about some furniture on the upper deck? The roof texture is not great. The bench is kind of in an odd place. Would you be staring at the garage wall with your knees under your chin if you were sitting on it? The bushes look like photos of bushes sitting on a flat plane. If you add some bushy small plants at the base of those bushes it will help them feel grounded. Do not be afraid to add some more plants and shrubs. The very limited amount you used feels like the home owner ran out of money before finishing the landscape:) The planter thing hanging from the deck looks lonely. Such a symmetrical form, one would think maybe hanging two of them. I have never been a fan of cars parked in front of houses, unless I am selling cars, not homes. I hope you take all of that as not just criticism, but as a constructive critique. paul

Yes it's just a HDRI for lighting hornoxx. Solo i think the lower square windows are risky considering sun damage. The upper larger openings provide a reflected diffuse north light so shouldn't be so destructive. I arranged the paintings so i may have placed them too close to the lower windows in reality.

Thanks HornOxx. Those wheels. Ah those wheels... Took me three months to figure out how to do those wheels. I was still learning how to do copy arrays. I faked the hell out of those wheels. Didn't even dawn on me at the time to use arc degrees. DOH. The outside strut attachments that connect the pads to the outer ring, took me days to figure out. The inside spring bars were pretty straight forward. But same problem with making the circular array. Groups and components and layers? What are those? But I learned a lot from those wheels. Did I mention I only had one drawing to go by? A fuzzy presentation painting at that. Google "Syd Mead VEX". There are only two images. His one painting and my model. Click image for larger picture. I have not even tried V-ray. It has to be tough starting out. Good job. Maybe the couch and chair are too small. Interesting interior decorating.

Je ne sais pas français, ainsi, tout ce que je dis est probablement jibberish. Joli rendu, mais un peu granuleuse.

Thanks Dave! The monitor actually sits behind another layer of clear glass/plastic/whatever that is the top layer of that entire wall. The number pad itself is old school payphone industrial strength and all the sockets (USB and power) are outdoor industrial strength as well. Cool idea about the restaurant. I really think we should bring back small, enclosed privacy booths of some kind for public places so we can make phone calls without all the ambient noise. Those were a good idea that unfortunately fell out of fashion. This design is a compromise of that idea and meant for indoor public place like lobbies and stations.

Jim, always a pleasure seeing more of your incredible work. Seems like all the good words have already been taken here, so I'll just combine them into one to create a whole new adjective that might come close to describing your amazing creations -- BRILLIANTOUTSTANDINGSTUNNINGWONDERFULBEAUTIFULGREATFANTASTICAWESOMWOW!!!!! Nah, still inadequate, but I can't find my thesaurus so I guess it will have to do. Please keep your work coming!
