Thanks for all the kind comments! I left my laptop rendering again last night and the result is another 4 renders, concentrating on details and a view of an internal corner you don't often see in photo sets of the pavilion. The column foot detail has been pretty heavily photoshopped as the travertine slab diffuse map doesn't really stand up to close inspection, so I PSd a higher resolution example in and mapped it over the rendered one. The others have just been gamma and exposure adjusted from the HDR renders, a little diffuse glow and a little dodging on the stool cushion seams. The last one shows window frames without any filleting, beading or screws- I'll update that part of the model one day, but I thought it might be interesting to post an example of the difference that details like that can make to a render. Scott, re: the chair and stool cushion thickness, on studying more photos I agree they could be a bit thicker (uuugh, back to the vertice mines LOL ), but it's only on copies that I've seen cushions anywhere near twice as thick as in my model, see the black copies below compared with the real deal. I really had my heart set on modelling the original original barcelona furniture with bolted steel legs rather than Mies' updated cast monolithic ones that we all know and love, but I couldn't find reference photos anywhere. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing them at the Bauhaus museum in Berlin years ago- I'm going back in September so I might have to sneak my camera in. heh heh [image: FakeBarcaChair.jpg] [image: RealBarcaChair.jpg] Again, the original 1400 x 800 images can be viewed at the following links: http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/JacksonPhotobucket/7_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090-1.jpg http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/JacksonPhotobucket/8_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090-1.jpg http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/JacksonPhotobucket/9_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090-1.jpg http://i449.photobucket.com/albums/qq215/JacksonPhotobucket/10_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior09-1.jpg [image: 7_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090617.jpg] [image: 8_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090617.jpg] [image: 9_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior090617.jpg] [image: 10_29BarcelonaPavilionInterior09061.jpg]

Daniel, hehe, I think that was actually what I liked most about it . It felt a bit more artsy than most of the clay's I've seen. I did try a b/w sky behind the building but didn't really like it as much so I left it out. -Brodie

Thanks for the advice. I might look to do one to show 'the process' then. Do you think its the quality that is a problem, or the content?

They say people with glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I think that they also say "make sure you have good fences so your neighbours don't have to watch you run naked to the hot tub / pool". Looks like a fun model, was thinking if the second story balcony extended over the deep end of the pool it could make for some fun times.

@unknownuser said: I especially like the second one. I think it's the postprocessed lighting effect you've got going on. Thank you mate....it's very refreshing when other pepeol apreciate your work @unknownuser said: If you've already put the effort into photorealistic though I wouldn't be so quick to go back to SU for non-photorealism. Why not just take your PR renders and turn them into NPR via Photoshop? I've had pretty good luck with that approach on occasion. well i didn't go back to SU for the NPR...not completly anyways...I used Thom's vray tools to get the exact camara angels used for the PR renders, to get the line works in SU and using the existing PR renders i already had...went into PhotoShop and created the NPR images. I'll upload the line work and PR images so you can have a look at what i had to work with. [image: fHGU_002.jpg] [image: kb4q_102.jpg] [image: jkEo_ArtistImpresion101.jpg]

I like both the images however if the building were not in the center of the frame it would feel more comfortable.

@unknownuser said: ooo, rerendering in Maxwell, eh? Curious to see how it works out. Worked out fine. I'll post the result in this thread as soon as I've found the time to do some tinkering in PS. @unknownuser said: I'm not sure that your images need this based on what you're doing but it's worth taking a crack at and seeing how it looks. Just keep in mind that it's one of those rules that you may want to break for the sake of art. I'm not sure they need it either, but I'd like to try nonetheless. If it looks good, great. If not, well ... then it doesn't. As for printing relatively small, a lot of contemporary paintings, photographs and drawings are just too darn big! This, I think, is because they are made with the archetypical 'white cube' in mind. People don't live in white cubes. Well, most don't. (A second reason for a lot of contemporary stuff being big, is due to how art students get to know art: by watching slides. Hence they never learn 'big' is the poor man's 'scale'.) Thanks alot for the tutorial!

Mike, The institute I think is not looking for a practical solution at the moment, what they are looking for are more of a aesthetic looking presentation rather than the design. I have thought of that at the beginning of my design but as a trained Architect I did what I am trained to do. That is to design a more practical and easy to build spaces... The reason for this say's the Institute is to encourage more people to participate and get involved in their vision and I think also is to make them donate money to generate funds... steelers05, I'm glad that you like the sketchy version, I've used Piranesi for that to add a more artistic and natural feel to the image... Cheers, allanx
