Ok, here is the statement, based on a reflexion on this thread http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=19778&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30 :

We've all tried to make really good rendering of wonderful architecture (or anything else), but sadly the success is not always easy to gain...
We've all think that one rendering application should be the one we were waiting for, but the first tries does not at all give the shiny picture we were waiting for...

So, why not showing it here, with a little explanation, about the effect wanted, and the unwanted result...
It can be a good exercise, and quite funny if we take a step back on our productions !
I does not intended it to be a junkyard or an execution chamber for bad pictures, but just a slighty different approach of the subject !

I'm looking in my files to find this kind of little hidden treasures...

      Just give it some though...

Good idea. I guess I can start.

A few months back I tried to achieve a wet concrete look. Using Podium I added a surface just above the concrete texture and made it transparent and reflective. There are so many things wrong with the image not the least of which is the composition. So I just quit.

Here I was going for a floating chrome sphere with a hole in it, inside a "sound" area all above the water.
        Again... why??? 😆
        I was bored I think.

Now, if you started a thread... "The Models I Failed To Create" I think my embarrassment would run way deep 😳

I think this is the thread I dared not create, but I'm glad you did. I have so many bad renders to choose from; basically every one I've ever attempted. I do read the tuts but nothing ever really goes in. It was hard to pick the finest example of my ineptitude but I think this is close. Main problem: realism in general, rendered with V-ray.

This is a good thread 😄

Heres a few of my twisted creations:
            Learning the importance of segments.
Finding out why having a render of just mirrors and lights is a bad idea.

I tried to make realistic 3D smoke in Podium with no clipmaps etc.

Needless to say "I failed to achieve"

Might try it again some time.

Now I feel bad. Your failures beat the cr** out of my successes. 😳 💚

If I make it look easy...It is probably easy

David, I was sure someone will come with something like that... but I think it's really good to see that people you think of as render masters have just has much trash in the backyard than anyone else (and even more, because they've try harder to get a result...).

Actually Boofredlay, I really like your strange floating chrome sphere...

Soo, good to see that this thread meet a positive audience 😄 !

... learning Vray without any help could be a pain...when you begin to understand certain notions, you dare trying them sure that you've fully get all the secrets of the apps...

So when you try to have a nice underwater scene with a displaced gravel floor, you end up with a replica of the great canyon and a crazy cloudy sky out of an other dimension...

                      Great thread!

Here's my contribution. I set out to make art, and came up with an enormous visual cliché. Anybody need a print to go with the suit and the loft? 😄

Where did you get that rock wall texture? or is that a photo background?
