    • RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

Hi all, names Ray, retired Army with more time on my hands than I know what to do with.
Always been interested in 3D, architecture, drawing, CGI and the like. Had v4 a long time
ago (think it was 4 anyways) and enjoyed messing with it but couldn't get past the
'beginner' stage back then. Re-found SketchUp 7 just recently and so far have enjoyed playing with it and
seeing what a lot of you all can do with it.

Looking forward to learning from you all.

      -Ray

(I have real thick skin, if I post anything by all means critique honestly)

    • RE: What's your beginners tip?

As a beginner myself (more aptly called a newb) I can say with confidence that the first
thing someone should do is RTFM (read the 'manual'). It's long, boring, etc etc et al ad nauseum but more than worth it.

Just the toolbar and tools sections are worth the time and effort. There are so many context and tool altering keyboard
key combination's for the various tools that it'll really be worth your while.

    • RE: Twisted Bar

      Yes, the Rotate tool, sorry.

Was also thinking that depending on what kind of outcome you desire, some interesting
affects can be had with the Make Spring plugin. At work where I don't have access
      to it's proper name.

    • RE: Twisted Bar

      Hello!

Using the Protractor tool you can 'twist' one end of a 'bar'.
You will probably need to join two or more 'bars' to get the desired
      affect though.

I'm new to Sketchup so am not familiar with available Ruby scripts and plugins
but there are probably some out there that will do the trick as well.

    • Newbie Needs Help Importing Materials

Greeting all! I've been messing with SketchUp 7.1 (free) for a while now and have the basics down (thanks to all of you).
I also have Kerkythea plugin and program installed and have done a few simple test renders.

I'm having a horrible time importing the materials (metals etc) from Kerkythea into Sketchup.
Read several 'how-to' on it and still just am not 'getting' it. It's probably so damn easy
a caveman could do it and it is stumping me.

Primarily trying to import metals and have all of the available materials from the Kerkythea website
      downloaded and extracted.
Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

      Thanks,

      RP
