That's strange. Happens to me as well sometimes, usually when I somehow get two or more faces on top of each other. Try deleting the face and if another remains, then keep deleting until the face disappears and then hit a single undo to assure there is only a single face. If there is only one face per cube, then I would definitely do as Mike said and group them before applying the texture to isolate all the geometry. You could also try running the Cleanup 2.0 script from Thom Thom and this does a good job of eliminating any unseen model issues.

If this is the same cutlist plugin cited in the above post by Jeff Hammond then what you need to do is make all your geometry into either a group or component before you run the plugin. My personal preference is to make things into components, I rarely use groups and then only temporarily until it is made into a component. So if you are making a simple rectangular box with an identical top and bottom, sides and front/back you will have 3 components. One component will consist of the top and bottom, the second component will consist of the two sides and the third component will consist of the front and back. For this plugin to work everthing should be either a component or group (ideally a component with an identifying name). If there is geometry that is not one of these the plugin will not give a useful cutlist. I suspect that in your situation, none of your geometry has been made into either a component or group and that is why you are getting the error message. Hopefully this helps. John

You might have better luck with something like the fur plugin. It might take some playing around, but you might be able to get a good result.

You can make that, will be the same with a cylinder (more easy) Intersection = Right Click / Intersect selected You can use Booltools till V7 or V8 free at Smustard (10 $) (Automatic intersection) On the SU Pro v8 that is automatic If you don't want use a box and draw a square or a circle on the cone take Tools on surface by Fredo 6 [image: Z3RM_cone.png]

Hi dsarchs and Wyatt, Thanks a lot for your input. I'll try both methods. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't install it correctly. Works fine now, and I'll test it. Thx.

After digging around various threads I figured it out: Install the "loadpaths.rb" script (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=29412) into SU Plugins. I modified it with: $LOAD_PATH << "#{pre}/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-ole-1.2.10.1/lib" $LOAD_PATH << "#{pre}/gems/1.8/gems/spreadsheet-0.6.4.1/lib" Backup and clobber the msvcrt-ruby18.dll with the one from the ruby1.8.6 release. require 'spreadsheet.rb' -> true -Robert

Thanks for the shura's introduction I come to here. I didn't know this kind of topic already exists. I shows this kind things in my other post here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=30749#p270444 You guys in this topics might be interested in. I did that all in DC formulas. And here I attach some of images from my post. From above post you can download SU file. [image: PUk1_spiral_02.jpg] [image: O7O6_spiral_03.jpg]

If you instal version 8 then you can save toolbar locations and if they go all strange again mostly due to reducing SU window size, then you can restore the toolbars again.

Thanks, everyone... I was using a profile for the front and back of the model. For some reason the width of one of the profiles was slightly shorter. I suspect I inadvertently moved an edge while I was moving it into position as an import and sliding it into place. I couldn't see the break until I scaled it up. Thanks everyone.

this has happened to me before... options. try importing the file into a new sketchup file via the import menu. try opening the file before bed and giving it some 8 hours to attempt to open... making sure not to use any other software and don't let the screensaver interrupt. try importing the file into another program such as 3DsimEdit or 3Dmax some of these have sketchup file import and some are plugins that allow it. then export it again back to sketchup. rebuild the whole model from scratch and employ the make backup option as well as autosave. you might try sending the file to someone else and see if they can open it, "fix problems" and "purge" for you.

I was able to get the middle button to work on a push-to-orbit basis by opening the Logitech settings window, finding the setup for the middle button, and setting it to "Other" and choosing "Middle Button" in the popup window. I assume this sets it to just send the standard middle button message without any other function, and that's what SketchUp is looking for.

Welcome to the forum There is a walk tool in Sketchup to allow walking around, you have the option of collision detection if you want. There is other software you can export your model to as well like Unity 3D, IceVision, and others. Does that help?

Hey guys - great hanging with you Thursday night and the demo was amazing. If I wasn't swamped with deadlines, I'd load up the demo disk and start checking it out. Look forward to your tutorials - they will help out tremendously in getting us up and running to test out the software. BTW - to the New Beetle owner in the family...www.newbeetle.org - I think you said it was a 2000...we're here if you need some help keeping that baby alive!

Last things first - you can't change a line's weight other than the thickness of all lines in your 'style' or setting a 'profile' thicker than the rest - BUT there are third-party scripts to mimic line 'weights' and related properties - e.g. 2D Tools' Line-Style. If a line is 'free-standing' you can change its length in the 'Entity Info' dialog by typing in a new length - it will extend from its end [i.e. the second point picked when making it, the first-point - the start-point - remains static]. If you make sure everything is unselected [Ctrl+T ?] you can the activate the Move tool and then select any line's vertex [start or end] and move it to a new point - if you know the increase in line length type this in, or if you have some other geometry or guides to snap to you can those. When in Move if you pick away from the line's vertices on the line itself you them move the whole line unchanged in its length. If you move a line's vertex and it forms a perimeter to a face [that's not triangular] you are constrained to the plane of the face [i.e. the coplanar edges] - unless you press 'Alt', in which case you can move the line's vertex in 3D and the face with 'auto-fold' adding 'creases' to itself so that faces will still exist for the rearranged [now non-coplanar] set of edges... If you are uncertain of a line's length and want to set it to something specific then use guides to make a 'framework' to snap to or the tapemeasure tool to get it's length so you know what to adjust it to. If you have a shape and want to make several edges a certain length - for example a 2D face or a 3D cube the if you select the edge[s] [or for a cube select 'faces'] that are attached to the lines in question and then use Move entering [or snapping to] required amount then all of the lines will adjust in one go. Hope this helps...

Some possibilities: as suggested, z-fighting: two faces on top of each other problem with graphics card driver (you could try upgrading) model might be located far (like a kilometer or more) from the SU origin point, or it might have parts (one short line is enough) that are laying somewhere in "outer space".
