Hello all, I'm totaly newbie with sketchup, but I'll try to understand step by step.

By the way, is it possible to import a 2D map and rescale SU with the good scale of the map?

      Thank you!!

      Hioube

        Hi Hubert,

import the map as a bitmap (bmp) and explode it. Take any reference measure from the map and try to draw exactly a line on it. Dimension the line and select the complete map. Than scale it till you reach the measure shown on the map. There are small differences between the reference measure, but that should not be so bad.

Maybe some members can do it more exactly!

Recently, I did a similar process. Seems I simply imported the image as .png, or jpg. I think it comes in as a group. If not, I must have grouped it. I mounted the image on a ground rectangle so that I could measure distances. Anyway, you can measure any chosen distance on the image with the measure tool, then type in your desired distance which will display in the VCB. You will be asked if you wish to rescale the model. Click yes, and all contents will be rescaled to that parameter proportionally. This means if any other stuff is in the model before rescaling the image, you need to save it as components in another folder, (or perhaps you can hide or place on other layers? not sure haven't done this.)

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

If you have something pre-selected in the model, only that will be scaled. One other way to scale just one thing in your model is to make it into a group or component, then scale with the tape measure while editing just that entity.

d12dozer beat me but as I'd typed it any way...

There is another perhaps quicker and more accurate method.
              Group the exploded image face.
              Edit that group.
              Activate the Tapemeasure Tool.
Pick two points on the image that are a known distance apart - here 3.300m dimension.
Immediately type in 3.300m and you get a prompt - to 'Rescale the group'.
              Answer 'Yes'.
The group now becomes the correct size.
This trick is useful to fix any group or component that is the wrong size.
You can even resize the whole model if you are currently working inside the model 'context'.
Use the whole model method with care as everything will adjust...

                Thank you, TIG and d12dozr:
I was worried that my reply could confuse.

                  Thanks TIG,

even as an experienced SketchUp user, I learned something again. It works fine. In this case the deviations are plus minus 1 cm or better. Of course it also depends on the resolution of the image.
