Hi Phil, There may be several problems with 3ds. First of all, make sure that you do not display back faces and all your materials are applied on front faces only. Then also make sure that your material names are no longer than 8 characters (although the exporter may handle this automatically). And of course, there may be other issues as well - I do not use c4d so am not sure.

Sometimes, even adding thickness isn't enough if the covering surface is fairly thin, like a thin sheet of ply overlying some support beams. You find as you zoom out that the underlying beams start to show through the surface. This is a feature of SU itself...the fact that the edges don't get any visually thinner the further away they get. Therefore, what might appear to be an edge as thin as a human hair if you are zoomed right in becomes as thick as a girder if it's hundreds of yards away. The only solution is this case would be to actually hide the top edges of all the beams...or turn off edges altogether. There are also one or two styles that can mitigate the effect.

True, true. And then you don't need to worry about fixing face orientation.

Thank you (he says condescendingly) very much for that. Saving as a dae file did not work, but File>Export then choosing 2D not 3D enabled me to export it as a jpeg. It is so quick and easy to rotate different views and closeup detail work.

As to drawing the frustra in SketchUp, you could take advantage of Cardinal Points and the Move tool. You'd end up moving the points the desired change in radius. So if the radius is 1 inch and you want the new radius to be 3/4", move a cardinal point 1/4". Maybe you could utilize that in a script to do what you need.

It would really have been great if we had some way to have those lines in the shadow areas which were different from the lines which are not would have been really cool as suggested by oompa!! I hope someone reads this and comes up with some innovative ideas – would be something to look forward to!!

That really sounds like a weird problem that you seem to have of not being able to work Soapskinbubble after reinstalling SU – never heard of this!! The problem seems to have been solved finally but I would like to try Ferrai which has been so highly spoken of – seems worth a try!!

It certainly would be wonderful to have a way to keep each of the plugins and all the files associated to it together and I am sure that someone will look into it seriously and come with some solution! In the meanwhile, the suggestion that Jeff has sounded seems to be good enough for the time being – think it’s worth trying!!

It can be so frustrating to develop such problems like being able to see only the “blank white drawing window” which makes it impossible for any work to be done especially when you are working on projects like these!! Since the cards are giving him problems, it sure seems to be something to do with the issue!

I have the same issue at the moment but have been working around it with Virtual Box. I installed XP and Sketchup 8 on the VM and it exports just fine. Not really a solution to the issue but it gets the job done... NVIDIA 7600-GT

Without looking at the model, I would say the edges that appear to be missing are either softened/smoothed or hidden. Go to View>Hidden Geometry and I expect you'll then see what you are looking for. Edited to add: I see you also posted your question as a separate topic and Rich has answered it, too. It's probably a good idea to only post a question once.

If you have a nested component, it is possible to hide the contents without hiding the component. In the Outliner, then, you would need to select the names of the contents to unhide them instead of the top level component. Unhide>All wouldn't work on stuff inside a component/group if the component/group isn't opened for editing.

Hi, Does in your "Plugins" menu "3dxSketchup" exist? Similarly, in the "View" menu? Charly [image: nzve_2011-07-31_134936.jpg] [image: yWJH_2011-07-31_134837.jpg] [image: VTC9_2011-07-31_134751.jpg]

@alan fraser said: ....Not forgetting, of course, that you can get a perfectly satisfactory result simply by using image mapping. In this V7 file the moulding has been taken right around a nominal 12' x 12' wall. The total number of faces for the entire thing is 111...as opposed to the 70,000 in the original single length. Very nice Alan,I would not have thought to make the beaded image with a thick, blurred circle. It even looks OK at an angle to the viewer.
