Sorry, I don't know any way... maybe there is an adaptation of [1,2,3,4][(frame/50)%4] that changes when you press something. Variables need to be refreshed every frame, so no luck there... why not just use an emitter? (Your tank is awesome BTW )

I think google could learn a few things from you and some of the ruby writers here on the forums. SP is amazing.

Thanks Wacov, your suggestion has helped me resolve my problem. My earlier post is incorrect, setting ballast blocks to the 'ignore' state does eliminate them from the mass of the overall group, so the joints do go flexi. However using the overall group shape as default seems to get around the unwanted collisions provided any colliding sub-groups are set to 'ignore'. I can now place my ballast anywhere because although the overall group can be huge its not getting used in collision calculations. Another property of note is that the largest ballast needs to be concealed within the connected group, NOT the group containing the joint itself. Many thanks, I don't think I would have worked that out, definately not in the short term anyway.

I have gotten it where a pin will fall into a shape and can be moved. Well sorta. The pin doesn't stay in there very well if i drag it around too fast( make sudden movements) and if I stack the blocks on top of each other, they just fall into the one below it. And they go through the floor some if they aren't flat on it. I have attached my model. Ya, I found the attachment button. Just press play to see what i mean. So please tell me what I need to change. Sorry it doesn't have a name

@wacov said: Ok, it's brilliant that we can use scripts and formulas... but why do we have to put it all in one line?? Here's a script: if(lefty==1.0);0.0;elsif(lefty<0.3);Math.sin(frame/3.0)/3;else;Math.sin(frame/(lefty*10))/3;end It's very, very annoying to scroll sideways through something like this, and error checking is that much harder without being able to see the bigger picture. I'm actually not very clear on the multiple-line scripting, but it'd make more sense that this; even if it's not till SPIV, I feel a multiple-line formula/script box is very important. One of the fields in the next version will be multi-line. But it would be too much clutter if they all were. I will see if I can come up with something.

    Try Math.sin(frame/3.0)/10 If the 3 isn't a floating point number (3.0) the result is an integer. 40/3 = 13 40/3.0 = 13.333333333

if you created a cylinder lying flat then it should work. explode and then rotate and move until flat on ground, then make component: | []| |

I had to PM the file to you as Firefox kept crashing when I tried on this thread!? My message for anyone reading this thread: @unknownuser said: Subject: Can pistons be prevented from stretching? @cphillips said: The strength of a joint is directly related to how big (massive) the objects connected to it are. If you can post the model I can make some specific recommendations. My browser kept crashing when I tried to attach this to the forum post so I tried here, assuming this posts it works! Odd... My model basically needs to defy the standard physics of this I think. I can think of a few redesigns to change how the tilting mechanism works on this one although that tends to destabilise the central pillar. I know these things are possible in real life, I've seen engineering and funfair rides which do what I'm trying to do (in part at least) - I just don't know how to go about them in this. I guess in this scenario the tilter needs counterbalance, but as there is no weight control I don't see how to do this too easily. Thanks in advance for any help, it is much appreciated!

Bug #1 seems very similar to an old one in sp2; that was fixed. In this model, it is fixed if you turn off the thruster setting. I've never found #2 to be an issue.

just turn the object to point the way you want the emmitter to go, then go inside and change the inside static to be pointing the way it should, I't quick and simple

Intelligently breaking a convex object into concave ones is really hard to do.
