@mitcorb said: Question- what is the function of the U bar suspended down below? The U-bar is used by the tractor driver to gauge the height of the plants he is running over. The IR sensor rack is raised so the bottom of that bar brushes over the tops of the plants. I think that determines the area that the sensors can "see".

I also have no idea what it is (probably because I do not use SP myself) but we have a dedicated SP subforum where I am moving your topic so that it gets better attention.

I made up a bunch of videos related to modeling a house for an engineering course. Check YouTube, and search for "ET365"

@ashscott said: Try making a simple SP file from scratch - sounds like there might be something in your file that is causing issues if you have been trying to open the same file - You're right - starting with a clean file cleared the fault. It seems there's a conflict between version 3.1 & 3.2. I started working with 3.2 & have some files created with that version. Then having had a problem, I went to re-install & could only access v3.1, so have continued using this version. If I open an existing file that was not originally created in 3.1... the programme crashes (to be expected I suppose - but it then continues to crash with files of either versions). Your suggestion has given me a way to clear the problem. Ideally, I'd like to re-install 3.2 & keep to it - but can't seem to access it now. Anyone know where its's gone?

One limitation of SketchyPhysics is that objects that are below a certain size will not move. If your individual door panels are very thin, for instance, they will not move. If you connect several thin panels together with joints, then group them all into a single group, that group will be large enough to move in the SketchyPhysics environment, but the panels themselves will be frozen relative to each other. Sometimes, you need to scale everything up to make a simulation work, even though your dimensions will be proportionately larger than in real life.

Probably just my older machine (2.6 ghz dual core) even though the rendering of SU is only on one thread..... I tend to cut out any unnecessary geometry in my SP models but if you have the firepower to run it then no problem - again, nice work

I had the same idea. But unfortunatly without much sucess. Now I have expanded my idea because I would like to create an arbitrarily large piece of paper. I imagine a script that works like this: Creating a surface. Indication of the subdivisions. Connect Parts in one or more directions. Indication of the flexibility of the individual parts. 1 ° to 360 °

@ashscott said: So you're not getting the issues I described two posts ago.....? I seem to get it no matter how I run it (apparently the raytest issue was clashing with SU8 but I can't even get it working right in SU7) try reinstalling sketchup or SP or sumthing ...

As far as I know you can't stop it. Instead of importing, save it as another file, select everything in that file (ctrl+A) copy it (Ctrl+C) the go to the file you wanted to import into and go edit->paste in place. That should do the same thing as import without losing all your info Ash

There is a much better answer than using a motor to place a joint where you want it - you need to use a servo and a little ruby script Step1: place your servo within the group you want to move and attach it to a base group Step2: select the servo and open the sketchyphysics UI Step3: within the UI apply the following settings
min:0 max:1 accel:4000 damp:1000 controller:@servo1 (you can actually call it anything starting with @
Step4: Select the base of your model and open the sketchyphysics UI Step5: place the following rubyscript in there: if frame<1.00 @servo1=0.00 end # this allows servo to incrementally increase based on joystick input (righty) you can change it to any of the joystick axes @servo1+=(0.5-righty) # this sets range of movement for the servo as it is not set in the servo's UI if @servo1>45;@servo1=45;end if @servo1<-45;@servo1=-45;end It took me a long time to work this out (reverse engineering another model) so I am more than happy to help anyone out with it if these instructions are too hard to follow. I believe this is a very powerful function in sketchyphysics and I have only seen it in one model in the 3DWH
