Raytest in weapons

Hi all!
i am telling honestly i don't know or understand anything about raytest.
I thought this is the place where i can get some idea of it
But i have heard it is very useful in making accurate weapons in sketchyphysics.
So, i have two questions:-
1.What is raytest?
2.How do i use it in weapons like a gun in sketchyphysics ?
I hope any great sp master can explain me .
