Troy,
In reviewing the model, I guess the challenge is "how much information does there need to be modeled".
Red, you're right about massing studies... the actual construction will come as the design gets refined; right now we are at the massing stage. Keep checking back here for updates.
Here is the .skp file so you can see how the model is built.Existing house model
Here are more views of the existing as modeled in SU
Here is the existing model. I haven't applied textures- the goal was to get the basic existing house modeled in such a way that i could easily modify any piece of it for the new design...
not sure how to get more than one image to upload at a time so it's one per post until i figure out how to make that work...
Sorry, here are more... i'm not used to attaching images yet
I'm involved in a small residential addition/renovation project and wish to use SketchUp and Layout for the entire thing. This means modeling first the existing conditions, mocking up the addition and any design ideas, then doing a demo plan, and finally construction docs- and of course all the little things in between. I hope to document my process and work flow as best as i can; in this way adding to the body of working techniques and general knowledge available in this community. All comments welcome.
Here are a few photos of the existing house...
say, care to share the skp of those lilly pads?
I'm actually surprised at how nice LU looks... i still think i'll stick to podium or vray, but not bad.
Nice integration- yes, dirty up the materials slightly
well done
I would like to see more support for working drawings in LO. I am on a Mac, running XP in Bootcamp. I am about to begin a small renovation project and plan on using SU and LO exclusively. I will try and post my progress and maybe get some help/feedback that could be useful to others trying the same thing.
It is limiting! as is the limits on the resolution of imported images- i guess in a way it's the same limit
[there's an app called GraphicConverter which used to ship with os x... it stopped shipping with macs around the same time they added .skp support to the app ..

This is EXACTLY what i've been wanting in a .skp viewer/organizer for mac!!! i can move, delete, etc. Brilliant!!! thanks sooo sooo much for showing us this!!!!!
As professionals, we constantly undersell ourselves. I'm not saying that's what you were trying to do, Susan, but it happens. I have ignored my spidey senses and it never turns out well. You are not greedy to want to be paid for your skill and experience. Coen is right- freeloaders! God will get them in the end. Or someone else will. Meanwhile, you are running the other way calling, "good luck, see you on tv!"
how did you bake on the textures? would you post the mod? thanks!
wow. this is incredible. i feel like this is an april fool's day trick. of course, this will be used by the only three industries with money: gaming, military, pornography. the medical and creative fields will have to wait for the trickle-down
cynical much? maybe a bit.
I've used VMWare and Parallels and Bootcamp. By far, Bootcamp is the best. Not the most convenient, but for performance it is the best.
I have the latest and greatest MacBook Pro 17" 2.93GHz, 4 GB RAM, and no matter what I set my virtual settings to be, Autocad 2007-2010 runs sloooooow. And forget about 3d Max or Viz. So I am turning to Bootcamp once again after years of toggling between the latest versions of VMWare and Parallels.

Honolulu,
Windows on the MAC runs like an OS should run, fast and effecient. Which is kind of sad that Windows runs better on another platform than on its own machine, makes a lot of sense right? Run it through bootcamp and it will work awesome...
But can you run xp 64 through bootcamp?
