Hi I hope this thread isn't totally dead, even though the plugin is no longer supported. I'm trying to get the Street Generator to work and can't get any luck installing. I've been able to get the City Gen extension to appear in the menubar but there's no Street Generator tools available. In my Plugins folder, I've placed the "city_gen.rb" along with the folder named "citygen". In this "citygen" folder, I've added the file "street_gen.rb" and the folder "street_gen" to the Modules folder. As far as I can tell, this is the extent of the install. Some things I'm unclear on... where does the file "city_gen_loader.rb" go? And do the folder names have to match the .rb names exactly (my .rb file is "city_gen.rb" whereas my corresponding folder is just called "citygen", without an underscore). I do get an error message from Rubyscript but it's really long so I can repost it if anyone cares to look. This is the last thing I need to sort out on this project, so I'm dying to figure this out! Thanks in advance.

I'm ok with this. Should they be resurrected they fit better in a GitHub project.

Apparently I had not taken out the city_gen.rb file "DUH!" but all is well now, and all missing parts are now intact and sitting in another optional plugins folder in case I need them . Thanks again.

Dunno if we can repackage it... but looking at them just reminded me of this project again and I had some ideas flying past.

Ah. This is probably why. Modules to CityGen, such as StreetGen, should be located under the module folder you find the the CityGen folder. It is mentioned in the instructions, but I know it's not necessarily obvious. On the StreetGen page it's mentioned in the small prints under the download. On the CityGen page is described under "Core and Installation Check". This whole project is very much work in progress (except that there has been little progress the last year) - so all our instructions are not that obvious to follow. We where talking about installers, but the project fell down from out priorities before we got to that point. So, what I think you need to do is remove all the CityGen and StreetGen files you added to your plugins folder. Then see if your other plugins work. If they do work, then first install CityGen core Then install StreetGen to the modules folder of CityGen.

After a little more playing around it seems Google Code lacks ability to do a online pull request back to the original repository. So in order to merge changes from a cloned repo, you need to clone it locally on your computer, merge and then push back to main. Which amounts to just a few extra steps.

@marian said: but still... 19000$!? I don't think that is too expensive for what it is doing and how is doing (realtime modifications). try to license the parts of the technology from other games/3d modelers and integrate them or try to implement that from scratch and it will cost you a lot more than 19k. also it is not a program for every Joe user to play with

When skimming through TBD's link to http://hgbook.red-bean.com/read/ it seemed that what I did was right. I had to merge because the files I had was based on an older version, not the latest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License#The_GPL_in_court Seems there has been moderte sucess in defending GPL licenses in court. Not that we'd ever have the cash to take anyone to court more than anything i think its good to have this sort of thing in place so we can wave the piece of paper (or .txt file) at anyone who does rip off a developers work; an empty threat if you will.

Have you lot seen what Kimon Onuma has been doing? Not really my scene but if not it seems remarkably similar and you may find a visit here worthwhile. Here's a pic of what they did in LA. [image: MkgI_LAXStorm.jpg] Chris
