Thank you so much!!! This is a huge help to me for setting up renderings for export. One huge improvement I would suggest is the ability to select multiple "old" materials to be replaced with one "new" material all at once. Thanks again!

TIG, Thanks for adjusting your script so quickly - after a quick test it seems to work fine. ... Idea for a possible future enhancement (V1.3) ??? ... May need a dialog box with a check box / dropdown choice for users - incorporate unhide_all.rb Currently V1.2 of the script moves all hidden objects to Layer HIDN - and they remain as Hidden objects. If you run the script unhide_all.rb (Thank you Rick Wilson) - all previously Hidden objects are now visible. To hide them again, users can simply turn the Layer HIDN off - very useful. Gives users more control over their hidden / revealed geometry. ... You could give users the option to keep hidden objects as hidden objects or to unhide them when they run the hidden2layer script. ... Thanks once again for V 1.2 - hugely appreciated. Regards Howard Leslie

I don't know. Let's assume the following: You've moved all hidden lines to the HIDDN layer. That HIDDN layer is OFF. If you switch it ON, and also have View > Hidden Geometry set to ON, then do you see the hidden geometry ? If not something is wrong. But if they are there, then a 3d export to DWG/DXF will include all of the SKP's layers, including those layers that are currently OFF in the SKP, and it will include the geometry assigned to the OFF layers too. Proper layering etc is preserved in the exported file, just as in the SKP. What 'Options' do you have ticked for your 3d export ? IN CAD switching the layer HIDDN on should show the hidden lines on that layer. I have just tested it to make sure I wasn't mistaken ! It works fine for me. Possible mess up... If you ill-advisedly export a 2d DWG/DXF version then it's not really a useful CAD file - more a 'graphic' - it will be in inches, there will be no recognizable layers brought over from the SKP - all geometry is moved onto layer 0, and if any layer is OFF its geometry is simply =NOT exported. If you have hidden lines with their layer ON, then in 2d export, if the appropriate option is ticked, you should be prompted to include those in the export - but then these are lumped with other lines on layer 0 so they are no longer separated.

See how 'heighttool' [?] sets its 'string' and replace the .add_text() in the other file with the 2dtext code using the height 'string' ? Can you explain how you see this being used ... I'm guessing you want 'flat' 2dtext height-tags rather than 'Text'?

Why not edit the container and select-all, then run the tool to untag the selected contents. The outermost container's tag should be unchanged by this...

@kaas said: hi TIG, Recently I did a project with lots of (high-polycount) trees and several camera positions. I really was missing some kind of LOD system. For instance, in one view some trees were very near and I wanted to use the high res version, in another view they were more in the distance and a low poly version would have speeded up the export of the views. So I looked for an LOD system for sketchup and Google turned up your 'old' plugin. I tried it in Sketchup 8 (the clients preferred version) but I can't get it to work. See attached file (all the components should be saved inside). What am I doing wrong?? Regards, Max You example SKP only contained instances that were called 'doos'. If they had been named 'doos+' or 'doos-' or 'doos~' the Proximity WILL work. So Select all of the 'doos' and use the context-menu option in the Components-Browser to replace all selected with 'doos-' ... Run the tool and, depending on your settings and the instances distance from the camera, you'll get 'doos+' or 'doos-' or 'doos~' for each appropriate instance...

@plot-paris said: really a great script. just in case you get bored, TIG some suggestions for a RandomSelect 2.0: some sort of soft selection (selection of nearly 100% at the centre and 0% at the outer areas of a circle... or selection density gradually fading from one side to the other). [attachment=0:1y6pbzy4]<!-- ia0 -->soft_selection.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1y6pbzy4] or bitmap selection: load a bitmap file and use the grey values for selection density... several selection sets out of one selection: you select all the entities and then, using the script, select only lets say 25% of them. now you transform/move/paint them. then you click the selection button again and get the next 25% of the initial selection... and then the next 25%... and finally the remaining 25%... (at the moment I am using a hidden layer, moving the transformed entities to that layer after each step) what do you think? usefull ideas? apologies for bringing this 10+ year old thread back up! but i am in need of such a tool which plot paris has suggested. anyone got some ideas???

I was able to make it work at the fascia+soffit type = vertical + Horizontal at the hip roof. Trying to manipulate the three other types now. [image: 1761190105607-64cf79ea-3cff-40c8-81bb-7cfa8f99f708-image.png]

Can I suggest that you try the latest Slicer5 version [see the Plugins Index], and not this old one. See you over there in that thread. When you say 'crashing' do you mean a 'white-out' and not-responding - this a=is a feature seen with many tools requiring intensive calculations - Sketchup IS still processing and will eventually complete. Tip: Make your slided object a 'solid' as 'leaks' will mean slices not forming properly. I'm locking this thread [20120129]. You'll still be able to read/download/etc here... BUT no longer able to make posts; as all focus should be on 'Slicer5' http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=374969#p374969
