RE: 3DVIA
If I may paste from the above linked article...
"To summarize I would give this first version a 6 out of 10. I think its a great little program but has a long way to go before it is as powerful as sketchup and can boast as many features. I can’t imagine it will be long before it presents a very tempting alternative. It does seem Microsoft are targeting the novice user which is an interesting decision."

RE: 3DVIA
Ah...see it now, thanks.
The texture editor is definately a winner, so easy to scale and manipulate.

RE: 3DVIA
Interesting, I just d/l'd it and it seems okay...but!...no Orbit tool! Thats an important feature IMO.

Form Fonts
Form Fonts is by far the most reliable and consistent 3D model site out there IMO, with over 35000 models so far they are heading in the right direction it seems.
I have noticed there are a few Form Font artists on this forum and had a few questions regarding contributing.
I understand this is a public forum and some answers may be sensitive, If so please reply via PM.- I read what was available online, but it seems a little vague, what criteria is required for submitting models?
- Is there a required volume needed or rate of submission?
- Remuneration (this is the sensitive one) is it per model? At what rate?
- Any advice or information that you feel like furnishing
Thanks guys, I hope this is not in bad taste, I believed this would be the ideal place to ask.

RE: Colorless textures
You are right, but thats why playing around leads to mastering a process.
heres another, this time I added DOF.

RE: Colorless textures
That would be possible with a scene that did not have all the reflection, I needed the red reflection on other colorless surfaces.
I also needed to make seperate whitened diffuse textures in PS as simply using color slider to white did not work well.Podium yup

Colorless textures
I was setting up a scene and needed to accent a product for a client, she did not want the eye to stray and suggested having the setup which was needed for display of product as black and white. That did not work so well as it was without texture effect, so I decided to try playing with diffuse maps and eliminating the color. I first tried making them black and white, but that stole the scene, I then decided to white out the diffuse map and render with higher bump values....this is the result:
note* this is not the customer scene, just a sample scene with various bumps and one color item.
Raw render, no post work. -
RE: Dedicated SU machine
I have one dedicated to rendering and post editing only. It is networked for file transfers only.

RE: Town / village
Thanks guys.
The next image may be the last one as I need to get to texturing and finishing. I bid this job at 30 hours and hope to get it done with four to spare. I will try post on completion if i can, usually the clients prefer not to have their property displayed online.

RE: Trestle table
thats a good looking table, i sure will be using it in a future render.
Thanks.

RE: Town / village
Thanks mateo.
There is two ways of doing it:
-
Export the 2d line work at the same dimentions as render (however sometimes they still do not match up and you need to manually align it)
-
In Podium you can render at same resolution as your desktop resolution, thus the native resolution of line 2d export is exactly the same as render, then if you have a widescreen as I do you simply crop the merged images in post editor.

Town / village
My second to last large project this year is for a client that intends to revive an 80's classic game called 'Dragons lair', I am modelling the village which is not a major part of the game unfortunately but still needed. My next one is the Gaul village for an Asterix animation feature.

RE: Cookie cutters
Looking good, how about using a stucco texture for the dough?
