Symmetry is not possible in SU (weld+subd of two mirrored components). To subdivide the middle part you have to combine both sides in one group/comp.

As far as i know you can always install the latest point release (same serial). But maybe someone can clarify this.

It's in the french forum. If you're not registered for the french language you're not seeing it as long as you're logged in. Just log out and you can read it (a bit stupid but this is how it works... ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

but really they are just hiding it for some reason. Why should I look at the bottom of the page for offerings on a "Buy" page, when originally it was at the top?

Yes, they're clearly hiding it to lure people into their subscription. The name change to classic plus the tiny writing below the three main options... And you can see that people are falling for it by some comments in the forums. I think there are already many users who bought the Pro subscription because they thought this would be the only option now (who don't read the forums). And next year Trimble will tell us, that it has been accepted very well and so many customers have switched to subscription...

Yes i noticed this too. It's a bit missleading advertising.
Of course you need an external renderer for this and the animation is also done in another app. Since there is a "THE BOU/DARY" logo on the plan i would suppose they have done it for Trimble and this would mean Max+Corona i think.

Someone is working on something for Unity. It would be cool if they would adopt it to Blender 3D.
      https://forum.unity.com/threads/blueprintz-simple-smart-fun-modeling-extension.448371/

This looks very promising. Thanks for the link.
The push-pull is already better than in SU. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Hopefully someone can adopt it incl. a good numeric input and the other good features of SU.

edit: The thread is from January 2017. Do you know if this is still in development?

edit 2: I've found something... at least till July 2018 he was still posting updates

Where to now? Any breakaway developers fancy going down the open source rip off route? Surely the SketchUp team are disillusioned with it all too?

Like i said before, it would be great, if someone could develop the key features of SU (inferencing, push-pull, double click to open instance/group,...) as add-on for Blender or Max.

    • RE: [REQ] Random component replacer

Yes a solution without a special target-component would be nice.
I have to say that all "random" selection plugins strangely seem to have the same conception of "randomness". I always get high amounts of "clumping", that i have to fix manually.

I think it's not so easy to reproduce in most cases. It could be related to "bad" geometry and bigger models but they are not crashing every time. In some cases maybe only every third or fourth switch (to the subdivided version), so maybe there is something that builds up in the memory over time.
I can try to isolate the model if it appears the next time and send it to you, but i think it's more diffuse and seems to happen with almost every model sooner or later.

I recently noticed Blender had similar mode when I was playing around. I felt it was nice to work with this mode. I logged a feature request for this.

I was hoping that a sub-d cage display mode was already in development for a longer time. For me this is a basic feature. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Btw. i really hope that performance and stability can be improved in the future. As it is now, the modeling process is still very laborious and slow with many geometry problems and SU is crashing a lot.
