RE: [Req] Texture Corrector.... PLEASE
sorry for the delay...
the trees are xfrog - but i have problems with decentered textures with other models too...
i've done some testing with the xfrog trees - there is a difference if i apply the "front to back" tool to the component (containing all leaves) or open the component to select all faces
to correct the textures...
at the moment i open the the component all textures get messed up forever. no way to restore the original coordinates.
correcting the coordinates of the component works! but if i open it after correcting... no way to go back - only reloading the file can fix it
here's an example:would it be possible to write a ruby that centers and resizes the textures?
i was really hoping for better texturing tools in v7...
...and for high poly + x64 + multi core support...

RE: [Req] Texture Corrector.... PLEASE
WOW! VERY cool plug! Thank You so much! i have to import a lot of trees into sketchup these days - without this nice tool it would be nearly impossible to get the textures right!
one question: would it be possible to write a ruby that can center a texture to the face it has been applied - some of the trees i import have many of their leaf textures not centered on both sides... any idea how this could be fixed

WOW!!!! this is really GREAT!!! Thank you so much!!! -
RE: Is there a "copy-multiple" ruby...
@tomsdesk said:
Thanks guys...I'm hoping to emulate the copy function in Autocad, where you can hit "m" for multiple after you select a start point: then you can position a new copy at each new end point selection until you escape out of the command.
In AutoCAD the copy function is always multiple since ACAD2005 or so... you can place your objects until you hit esc. it would be good to see something like this in sketchup too...

RE: Google Sketchup Pro 7 is out
ignoring multicore these days is a complete joke to me. it's totally clear for everyone that there will be no substantial improvements in processor speed in the near future - the future is multicore! ok, implementing multicore usage for modeling seems to be not that easy but i think i has to be done because it's seems to be the only way to speed things up. And why not using multicore for the rendering part? seeing 3 cores sleeping while exporting a picture takes half an hour is really annoying...
definition of "semi high poly":
this skp file has 140mb on the hdd and needs ~1gb ram! and i would call it only "semi high poly". in max i can handle 7 mio polys or more without such big problems...and it's not only about display and modeling speed... saving such big files is veeery slow in skp and importing objects with some 100k polys is taking ages. when i have to copy/paste only a few polys from this skp file to another sometimes i wait for 15-30 min before skp is responding again...
and 64bit support becomes quite useful if you try to export a model like this for rendering (or as dwg/3ds) and skp likes to crash at ~1.6gb ram usage...

RE: SU/Maxwell
- assign the material to your geometry on face level
- turn on hidden lines
- pick up the mat from one face with the pipette and assign it to the neighbouring face - redo this for all faces of the curve one by one...
another (faster) solution for curved faces with not much difference on the face normals (<~45°) is to
- assign the material to one face (hidden lines on)
- then set the texture mode for this face to "projected"
- select all faces of the curve
- pick up the material from the projected face and assign it all selected

...2 years!!!
maybe this is the alternative

3ds max trial version is the free converter for .max files... for 30 days

Isolate Selection?
Hi,
Is there a ruby that allows you to select an item and isolate it temporary?
3dsmax has something like this and it`s VERY useful.
If this isn't already done, would it be possible to write one? -
RE: Assign continuous UV coordinates to all selected faces?
Works! THANKS!
I thought using "projected" would project the texture from one direction on all faces but the normal will be rotated... very cool! -
Assign continuous UV coordinates to all selected faces?
Hi,
would it be possible to write a ruby which lets you pick up the UV coordinates from one defined face and assign it to all selected neighbouring faces at once instead of one by one - as you have to do if you want to produce a continuous texture on a curved surface in sketchup. would be a great time saver...

maybe google is waiting for someone who writes a ruby to support 64bit... and multicore of course
Ruby is something 'on top' of the software as I understand.
Making a 64 bit version, multicore optimisation and adding Large Adres Awareness, are all things that need to be implemented in the core code itself , i.e C++ or whatever the code language used. -
RE: Sketchup-like
Here's a direct downloadlink for the demo - but it's veeery slow
http://www.zdnet.de/downloads/prg/3/4/en10780134-wc.htmledit: sorry, it's only SC2007 - i didn't know that there's a v2008 available now...
so you have to fill out the form... me too -

To model my house by making a simple box then texturing it with photos and uploading it to GE does not really need high poly support.
...yes, this seems to be the point! ...unfortunately
i was afraid that this progress would happen as google bought it.
hopefully, there will be alternatives to sketchup in the near future - like bonzai...btw: 50000 skp faces - maybe 500000 polys is NOTHING when you get into archviz
kwistenbiebel has said it: load only ONE bigger tree (maybe 200 - 300k) into sketchup and it's nearly dead. only importing this tree will take minutes! and then compare this with importing the same tree in max......and i've turned off everything i can in the settings
