SubD & Vertex tools question

Hey guys!
I have installed subd, and it is mega cool!
I am wondering if SketchUp along with subd can handle this comfortable chair?If not, what should i do with the holes I'm getting when working with Vertex tools.
Everybody is amazed by vertex tools but i don't get it.
When i extrude with ctrl+left mouse i get a hole.Cheers
