I just noticed that the SketchUp version you have is <2016.
Therefore "Persistent IDs" cannot be used - these are needed to circumvent the lost IDs during newer SketchUp processes...

Oh sorry, i wasn't aware of that.

Thanks for the update. It's working great now! Very cool. πŸ˜„
Could you put it into the right click menu to the other export options?

Btw. is it possible to configure the right click menu? The list is getting very long and there are some entries that i never use. I somehow remember that this wasn't possible and you had to change it in the plugin code. If this is the case, is there a single command that can be commented out to deactivate it without generating problems or is it more complex?

Thank you very much TIG! But i'm getting an error message...

Thanks for the suggestion, but i need separate files to link them in max. If i link the same file several times with different hidden parts the imported geo will be overwritten.
And if i have to hide parts first and then save the file i can also select the modified groups one by one and export them via right click menu, as i do it now. I was searching for a more automated solution for bigger models, where i would split the model in more parts to make it faster to update in max.

    • [REQ] Export selected groups/comps to separate skp files

Is there a plugin that lets you select one or more groups or components and export them separately as skp to a specific directory? I have found export plugins for other formats, but no skp.

I'm still searching for a good solution to "link" skp files to 3ds max. There is this import link manager for max that could work quite well for me...
      http://www.mirarkitektur.com/mirzasoftwares/?menu=presentationProduit&product=Mirza%20Link%20Manager

I could import the whole model, but this can take some time for bigger files, so i think splitting up the model in several parts would be helpful. If i modify the model only the changed parts need to be updated.

So my question is, if someone could set up an export routine where you can export (and overwrite on update) only selected parts to a folder.

The best thing would be if it would be possible to specify an export folder that is defined in the project (is it possible to store such attributes?) and export/update the selected groups or components with their definition names with click on a button or an entry in the right click menu.
(A more advanced option could be a link manager like "Cross Reference Organizer" (https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/cross-reference-organizer) where all parts would be listed and could be refreshed)

      Yes...
      https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=70382&start=90#p643293

And we already have a "hidden" price increase for 2019, since the release cycle has been changed from 12 months to 14+ months... (~16%+). And everyone who bought 2018 right after release got nothing for his last "maintenance fee"...

Does anyone know if you buy a renewal before February, ahead of when your maintenance ends, let’s say in April. Do you get the extra time added or loose it?

"Tip: Renewing early does not shorten the end date of the program. For example, say you initially enroll in the program on December 1, 2015, which expires November 30, 2016. If you renewed ten months later, your enrollment extends to November 30, 2017."

    • RE: Graphic Card for SU 2018

Better get a higher clocked CPU. 3 GHz turbo is very low and SU needs a high single core speed, since it only uses one core. A 12-core processor makes absolutely no sense for SU. Only if you plan to use this as a render machine. And then a higher clockspeed would still be preferable. Is it only for SU or are you using a renderer?
There is no need to take a Xeon. An i7/i9 would be the better choice i think.
And the GTX 1080... unless you're into GPU rendering i would say you can go with a GTX 1060 or 1070. The CPU power will be more important for SU (the single core speed).
And yes, get a M.2 NVMe SSD.

I can change up a number of parameters to improve the aesthetics if there is call for it.

I have to say that (as an architect πŸ˜‰ ) i don't really like those arrows. I would prefer strokes. And the text aligned to the dimension line, like in Revit for example... https://youtu.be/hdgyZd_EiD4?t=89

I really enjoy watching your progress in this thread! 😎 It would be great if Trimble would show only a fraction of this speed and transparency in their development.

I think you're doing a great job and i really would like to buy your wall plugin, but for my work it's too specific and limited. The design of the wall features and components doesn't fit my work and i think I would need a more flexible and customizable approach regarding doors, windows and stairs, like custom components.
I know it would be a completely different thing and much more elaborate, but it would be great if there would be some kind of parametric component like in Revit or Acad. I don't know if this would be possible as a plugin, but maybe this could be developed as a separate plugin for parametric components in general and then linked to the door/window function... just dreaming πŸ˜‰

      one more thing -
SU 2019 should be out soon. Is there ana chance that SU 2019 is going to be multithreaded ?

I don't think so. From all comments i've seen regarding this subject, they're trying to ignore multithreading as long as they can... maybe until 64-128 cores are mainstream, or 256? Here is a post from a few months ago https://forums.sketchup.com/t/su-layout-multi-core-rfi/63518/20

    • RE: PC Hardware recommondation

Yes for your profile you want a CPU with high clock rate and less cores.
Here are some configs with 6 or 8 cores. All very silent systems with passive cooled video card and semipassive PSU.

https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-1064749 (6 cores, 4.6 GHz single core turbo)
      https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-1064353 (6 cores, 4.7 GHz)
      https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-1064352 (8 cores, 4.9 GHz)

For Lumion you can change the video card to some bigger nvidia card, depending on your budget. In this case or if you plan to add a bigger card later, you should replace the 500W PSU with something bigger around 700-800W (i prefer Seasonic or be quiet).
I don't know the case, but depending on your needs and how it performs you maybe want to replce the case fans with some low noise fans (Noiseblocker, etc.)
I have included a 500GB SSD. I don't know how you store your data. If you don't have a file server you maybe need to add some additional HDD or bigger SSD.

    • RE: 5+ button mouse vs SU

rv1974 Like i said, i use them for years (always logitech, i think since ~20 years now), no problems in SU. I have a G700s. The software of the G300s should be basically the same (Logitech Gaming Software). https://youtu.be/vn7D8O7_d50?t=252
You can define any keystroke you want. I use combinations of two or more buttons for the shortcuts in SU to multiply the buttons of the mouse.

      Yes.
I think it depends on the software of the mouse, which commands you can assign to buttons. I use Logitech for years now and it is even possible to write macros.
      I'm working with combinations of F-buttons (coming from AutoCAD, where i had assigned F3 and F8 to the mouse) and shift/alt/cmd, eg. F3=select, F8=Move, Shift+F3=PushPull, Shift*F8=Move, Alt+F3=Line, Shift+Cmd+F3=Tape Measure, Shift+ctr+alt+F8=offset, ...
      Works for me πŸ˜„

    • [Req] Shift Two-Point-Perspective by a certain amount?

I'm working with the Maxwell plugin for SU and since it isn't possible to show the result of an image shift directy in the viewport, i was wondering, if it would be possible to at least achieve this by a separate plugin, where you can specify the camera shift by a numeric value based on the percentage of the total image height? (as it is in Maxwell)

What do you mean exactly by storing "material id"

I mean material IDs like in other other programs, which can be used for multi materials, random materials, object distribution or selection sets.

      Here in max:
      1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJiwnQ3anwM
      2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8qQlb8HupI

Or used in RailClone for distribution of objects
      https://youtu.be/Xe0MPT0S0wI?t=625

Btw. would it be possible to get material informations from lines, when you extrude lines to a face? Then you could have a set of lines with assigned materials and they will be applied to the extruded faces. Combined with an automatic generation of mapping coordinates that follow the extrusion like it is already possible in ThruPaint, this could be really helpful i think (video 2).
