    • RE: Stupid problem with xfrog trees

      Carloh,
seems that xfrog trees in 3d max format come as one single object with a multi sub-object material applied by material ID, I don´t know if that is compatible with Maxwell render...
probably one solution is to separate every part of the tree by material ID in different objects and then assign single materials to those objects, then export to .3ds format...
but as thomthom suggest, better contact them to see if possible to change the libraries for the .3ds version...

Bryan it is looking very nice, specially with those trees... as you describe them and for your location they remind me mesquite plants, do you know what kind are they???

    • RE: Modern house

      hi neshxy!
I think the reason why your file is heavy is that it has a lot of geometry, specially all that vegetation, how many different plants and trees does your model has??? you should check out if vray for sketchup supports vrayproxies, at least that way you can store all your highpoly elements out of your SU file and use them only when rendering... with the use of proxies I would even dare to use geometry for the grass...

as a suggestion to improve the image I would light up the scene with an HDRI

hi! you can also use normal bump or displacement, but of course it depends if it is compatible with your rendering software... your background plate is looking strange to me, will you change it for a higher resolution in post???

      ATLAStudio, thanks for your comments!
I agree about the walls but the exterior white walls actually have very subtle imperfections which are more noticeable in the WIP thread images http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=333&t=48884, weather here in southern Sweden must be not so different to yours in Scotland 😄
the pendant light was modeled by me, it is agnes chandelier designed by Lindsey Adelman http://lindseyadelman.com/lighting.php?item=214

Bryan, thanks man for your kind comment!

Adorno, much appreciated for your suggestion...
I just read this comment from Jason Maranto in another thread:
"I've seen plenty of nice interiors using just Physical Sky or HDR only, and it will be just fine, but add a emitter to the interior and you are asking for noise that may not resolve until very high SL."
my mistake is having a sun light + physical sky + 10 emitters + 2 IES...

      thanks guys

    • RE: Another Remake

      hi Bryan!
I must agree that the grass is not helping your image, if the make-fur plugin is not working probably you could try to make it in photoshop (use a grass shaped brush and paint it in a new layer) here comes a link for a tutorial:
      http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=30882
may I ask what software are you using to render??

hi, you can also grab mxm files from here:

      http://resources.maxwellrender.com/news_scripts.php?t=1

p.s. avoid using materials with displacement within Maxwell for Sketchup

Hmmm, dunno, never thought of trying, I will give it a go when i get a chance, got a link to the Vray thing you mentioned?

      hi,
      Peter Guthrie's blog:
      http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2009/03/vray-edge-fillet-tutorial/
it also works fine to simulate for example tiles if applied to the displacement channel
