Chedda this image is gorgeous!! have you tried generating a fog pass to add volumetrics? and if you multiply the fog layer with some blurred lines for the light streaks

RE: Retro microphone
beautiful images Cotty, for some reason I like more the wire-clay render but it doesn't mean that the other image isn't good...

RE: Exterior HDRI illuminated
peter_shaw, thanks!
the 3D Artist magazine, I'm not sure if it is monthly issued, but it comes with a CD, and the #52 is dedicated to the arch vis...
about the grass, when you asked about the cut-outs, do you mean the grass on the turfstone pavers??? if yes, it is just a density map, I posted a detail in this thread:
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=333&t=50891&p=460238#p460238
yes I used 2 grass groups with density maps and lenght map, I'm still working in this one and added a third grass group
the arbaro hedges I took one of trees included and modified it, in general terms:
scale = 1.3 (height of the plant)
levels = 3 (trunk + 2 levels of branches)
I could e.mail you the arbaro file, so you can study it and compare...
and yes, the image needs higher SL, this one is just rendered at about 16-17 SLChedda, much appreciated!!! I have to check the design connected models included in the CD!!
I have not registered yet to the Maxwell competition, but I have been reading all the info and looking for some inspiration, I must admit I have not ever used the Maxwell Render suite, not sure if I can achieve a decent image, I suppose you are in, are you????Cotty, thanks for your comment!!!
thanks guys, best

RE: [WIP] turfstone pavers
hi again!
omiKron, thanks for your comment!!
tom72, thanks a lot, yes, grass is made with the maxwell's grass feature...
about DOF in vray: you have to create a z depth pass, then in photoshop use that pass to give the depth to your render using the lens blur filter...
the following tutorial is for 3D max but it should work similar with SU + vray
http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php?tutorials/depth_of_field/Carloh, much appreciated! I used SSS (single sided) material for grass, and a texture for the blades shared by Peter Guthrie in this tutorial:

RE: Theme Park NPR Digital Watercolour
Hi Allan! great NPR work as usual!!! yes that dot is the sun as rendered in Maxwell, if you feel up to experiment, give maxwell's simulens a try: scattering, diffraction and frequency could give some nice effects...

RE: How to use emitters in Maxwell Standalone for Sketchup
Sketchfield, check units and scale of the objects in your 3d model, make sure that you are working with real scale and the size of objects correspond with units used...
