The preferred way is as Cotty suggested. But the other way should work. You really should check for the M2 update:
      http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/60107

But you really should consider having 2014. I have had a good experience with it.

    • RE: Sketchup 8 and rbz files don't work

You did not indicate whether you had tried Window> Preferences>Extensions and selected the Install Extensions button...
      Another way:
RBZ is a form of zip file. You can actually rename the file extension to ".zip" in windows and unzip it to the Sketchup 8 Plugins subfolder. Let the plugin/extension deploy its script and any attendant folders.
That is, unless something has changed for Sketchup8?
EDIT: and I didn't see Cotty's reply. That is very possibly the issue.

    • RE: SketchUp 2015 Wishlist

      @gudio83:
      See this link: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=58335.
An extension or plugin like this is more likely to happen than it being incorporated into the program itself. Is this what you are describing in your comment?

      Hi there.
      See this: http://www.3skeng.com/en/index.htm

      Not necessarily the exact solution.

    • RE: [Plugin] Sketchup Ivy

      Hi:
I installed this from the pluginstore into SU2014 and it worked well in my simple tests.
I made a point of reading the entire thread to get a clear idea of how I could edit the basic leaf components so that the white background and the component outlines would not appear in the Sketchup model.
I opened the Plugin folder containing the components in 2014, got the alert that the components were made in v6 but proceded and tried Ctrl+ Erase to hide the edges, and I edited the edge style in the component interface, in case that might help.[I did not save back down to v6]
Well, none of the above helped. The ivy generating process would not complete.
It is as if the alterations obliterated some feature that the plugin relies upon--even though I did not change the name of the components.
So I have uninstalled the plugin rb and support folder, for now.
I did not seek out any of the altered component versions offered by others in the thread, such as wisteria or English ivy, because I was trying to learn/understand the texture/alpha channel relationships.
      Any thoughts?

      Hi:
Did you refer to this article?
      http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/167479

The article was found by Help>Knowledge Center> type keyword "photo" in search box and after a little wading, find that article.

There are You Tube videos on the subject, also.

    • RE: Change default number of sides?

I could not find a direct user preference way to permanently change the default. However, googling "sketchup default segment count" turned up this discussion:
      https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/sketchup/jzXhYlqvmyY/sR_CmpTwKZUJ
Perhaps there is a ruby script out there somewhere that could run at startup, does a short routine on circles and or arcs with some desired segment number already set?

    • RE: Edit line profile

I can suggest TIGs 2d tools. In it is a couple of tools for changing a linestyle, with context menu access to settings. Find this plugin in the Sketchucation Plugin Store, and read about it in the more info link.
Not sure about your question on text. Actually, not sure if the above is exactly what you need.

select the group you wish to insert
      control x
      open the receiving group
      Menu>Edit>Paste in Place
Option to explode the inserted or not your choice
Move stuff about within the group as you wish
      Close receiving group
While still highlighted repeat the above steps.

    • RE: Castle Gate Scene

Thanks for posting. Your final image is excellent. Very convincing as a classic painting.
The second image with the imposed lines and the slightly different camera angle helps explain the road and bridge alignment.
On my first glance at the third image, I misread the bright shoulder of the road as the roadbed itself where it meets the mound in the foreground. It may have to do with the fairly straight top edge of that shoulder.

    • RE: Need to change slope on complex object

      Just some words of caution:
IF you are unable to widen the ramp surface to extend under the ballustrade sufficiently, a sharp eyed inspector may say you need some kind of "kickboard" or curb for compliance. This might be related to use of a cane or crutches and the likelihood of these slipping off the ramp surface. Then again, this may not be a problem in your particular case.
Excessive rail extension at the bottom of the ramp can also be a hazard under some circumstances.
