UVwrapping of a Mesh : look at the Mesh unwrapper and use that for the UWmap, not the mesh, then exporting the UVmap and Mesh as an OBJ... leading us into -

a OBJ exporter than supports UVmapping, Custom Scaling, Custom Axis Alignments (eg a lot of apps have Z as the vertical...) and Mesh Grouping (the OBJ spec supports splitting a mesh into groups).

a trueSpace COB/SCN importer : to save me having to open tS, export to OBJ and import as I convert from tS to SU...

I've seen this tool in modelers such as Hexagon actually. used for adding loops to models for subdivision / making details..
