      You know what,

You said they passed a law for straight veg only, banning bent ones.

I proved that was a myth, it was a grading measure only and nothing was actually banned.

You then proudly tell me I'm wrong and the law was repealed.

But the fact remained... It was a myth.....

*drops microphone and wanders off to spend more productive time smashing head into wall than debate anything to do with or connected with brexit.

      I broke my own rule.

Rule 6 : never debate the moon landings.
rule 6a, never debate with "truthers" , jfk nuts and about climate change.
rule 6b, never debate brexit with either side.

oh and before anyone thinks I'm a remainer or a leaver. I'm neither.

      I'm a realist.

neither side know what they are doing or what the results are going to be.

all I know is, I've got work in the morning, I've got bills to pay at the end of the month. past that.. I don't give a *insert colourful metaphor" anymore....

Not the old straight cucumber urban myth..... I quote..

Cucumbers have to be straight and must not arch more than 10mm for every 10mm of their length so people can tell how many are in a box.
      (The Sun, 4 March 1998, p6)

Cucumbers do not have to be straight. There are grading rules, which were called for by representatives from the industry to enable buyers in one country to know what quality and quantity they would get when purchasing a box, unseen, from another country. Nothing is banned under these rules: they simply help to inform traders of particular specifications. The EU Single Market rules are identical to pre-existing standards set down both by the UN/OECD and the UK.

Sorry.. But I do my research....

      wellllll

      no one knows.

there's a lot of shouting and ppl waving "reports" that contradict what the other side are waving.

      it's a total mess.

I'm glad I work in an industry that will keep going anyway.. (legionella control in the medical and education sectors)

    • RE: Precise positioning on import

I get what you mean but,

Bringing the mesh into blender (via obj) everything loads in place, as it does in Poser, daz studio, wings, silo.... Etc

Su is the only one that seems to require manual placement of every imported mesh item.

    • Precise positioning on import

ok this is probably a fault that lies with me but I'm having an issue with importing files from my old modeling app trueSpace - I've now found a decent working file converter, but now there's a new issue.

how do you import a model and have it just go where it was in the setup?

I import part of the model. I then have to click to place it.. when you have a model thats 10, 20 30 parts that all fit together, this is going to be an issue...

is there an option or key I'm missing that just, well, places the import where it was in the model before? eg : import wall. import door, door goes into the wall as it was in the file, etc.

Brain : this is a component!
      Me : I know
Brain : no, this is a component, get it?
Me : I know! Will you shuv up?
Brain : idiot. Copy it, enlarge it 500% over there, and then work on it, they won't be microfaces anymore and life will be easy. Pillock.

Thinking, while we're waiting, could we make clearly labeled threads (think "blenducation : having issues importing....") to go on with, with the labels making it easy to round em up and move them when the forums active?

the main problem is, DAE is a poorly supported format.

      no no! hear me out!

there's plenty of apps that write DAE.. but damn few that read it.

but there's plenty that do read OBJ - it's the almost universal 3D format..

    • RE: SketchUp 2019 release

ok I've been thinking after reading the thread over at the official forums and I've come to the conclusion.. the team want a certain portion of us to get lost.

to clarify - those of use that push the program, that model far far more than just a simple room or building that ignore layout totally.

we're not their market or target. we're an inconvenience. they just want the architects that use SU for a presentation then move to Autocad etc for the main work.

its the only reason I can see for the lack of upgrades, the attitude of "if you think you can do it better elsewhere go" (I'd fire an employee that told someone that. the whole point is to sell MY product, not someone else's) the lack of a plan (the excuse of we can't show you... is fake. other companies can do publish... I think they don't have a plan personally)

now the attack on Chip.. (and yes that was an attack) ... well.

      thoughts?

    • Looking for suggestions on some software

Here's a thing I've been thinking about, and that's how to manage my projects.

See, on most projects, I've got

      Model files (sketchup, blender)
Model files for manipulation (uvmapping, conversion for programs like renderers etc)
      References (pureref collections, etc)
      Artwork (test renders, material files)
Renders (render engines, materials in work)
      Notes (atm notepad plus)

      And its messy.

Been wondering, is there a project management program around that I could collect all these into 1 file as it were, and use that?

Thinking I open said program, select the project I want to work on, it then opens modeler + file, reference files, etc, as if Ive just taken a folder off the shelf....

I usually hop from sketchup (make) to Blender, and it is rather painless, apart some quirks. Blender accepts .dae rather well. Instead I've had problems with exports from Sketchup to DAZ Studio, which is strange, since both programs use .dae as the default format. Any idea?

I'm betting only part of the model comes in.

and I'm thinking, you make your models multi coloured...? and I'll say of you keep them default white they load fine..

yup ran into that when I tried it. seems (from my limited understanding) SU puts out a DAE with each colour as an object and DS has issues with the way it's doing that.

Considering the shitstorm during the last few days, I doubt they'll drop classic licenses anytime soon. The new website is effective enough to direct new users to subscription.

I wouldn't bet on them thinking that.
all I've read from the team in the ongoing storm over at the forums suggests it's full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes and we don't understand why your so upset....
