Darn right there is a registry tweak for it. There's a reg tweak for everything on a Windows machine. It's really comparable to brain surgery, except on a computer it isn't guesswork, it's absolutely mathematical precision and guessing gets you a fouled machine. It's 2019 now and I have a similar problem, except my .skb files are the ones showing a small representation of the model as the icon, and my .skp files show the generic Sketchup icon. Want to swap that situation, and KNOW there's a fix, just don't have the same technical fortitude as I did back in the 90's to find the problem. Anyone know what the fix is? Not afraid of the registry, if that's what it takes, but not finding much insight from other users at the moment. And yes I'm averse to installing unnecessary third party browsers, etc, simply to view a thumbnail/icon as it should appear, when the problem can be fixed internally within Windows. I updated my graphics driver. SU is maybe a wee bit faster, but not easy. No, let me change that. I rechecked Preferences and now I can choose Hardware Acceleration. I checked it and restarted SU. Yes!! Now it works great. Thank you!

"Add Invisible Layer adds an invisible layer to all existing and new scenes. " This seems to be the way these plugins work. It's really important to be able to add layers and not have them in existing scenes. But NEW scenes? I have Jim's plugin. I find I can setup a new scene and have everything I want. When I save the scene. the layers added with this tool (which are visible in the present setup) turn off. This doesn't seem consistent with how scenes work. I have to turn the layers back on and update the scene again. I also notice that prior to this update, the objects in the hidden layer cast shadows in the new scene, although the entities are invisible. I'd suggest that once inside the model the added hidden layer can be added to scenes in the normal fashion. They just aren't added to all existing scenes (the option Trimble should add).

But where did all my installed codecs go? Last I checked, there were about 8. I downloaded and installed the Classic Windows Codec Pack from Cnet (who I trust) and tried another export. Same problem! Still no codecs show up in the dialog.

I found the answer... Run Regedit Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes.skb and delete this entry, this don´t interfere with the .skp thumbs, so if you rename the .skb to .skp the thumbnail will appear normally.
