pretty sure that's the obama administration (etal) not letting them.. they blamed the benghazi attacks on these cartoons. (like- a couple of years ago, the white house condemned charlie hebdo for doing what they do)

this is why sketchup needs to be modified to work with small objects.

      they only have generic icons.

do you mean generic like the problem in the original post or generic like this:

      Screen Shot 2015-01-05 at 6.55.59 PM.png

      ?

one is a problem and one is just trimble not providing the proper programming πŸ˜‰

fwiw, i recently had a similar problem as the original post only with my webloc icons.. 'fixed' it like so:

      go to
~/Library and drag the Caches folder to the desktop (just in case.. move it to the trash eventually)
      reboot computer

      go to
Macintosh HD/Library and drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
      reboot computer

after that, the webloc icons showed their stuff again instead of the blank white.

      yeah, totally different.
dunno, i was just responding to the video "nobody tells this to beginners".. as if telling someone they'll get better after time will make them not quit.

to be honest (or- to be a spoilsport), i think beginners get told that all the time.

knowing that you'll reach a certain goal in x amount of years isn't really a solid driving force..
      what's that about the journey..?

like-- i think most creatives moreorless enjoy the part when they suck too.

      I thought 2013 was Google's release? Was it Trimble's?

with trimble came the year names instead of 6,7,8..

trimble bought sketchup in summer 2012.

      Anyway, my question is:
Is there a way to make Curviloft create only quadratian faces?

      Thanks,
      Rony

post the .skp (or that portion of the model).. there's probably a way to get better results than the long triangles you're getting.. (via better curve segmentation and/or curvilot settings)

Just a quick question if I may, on that example, what is the process after using the follow me on the 'leg' to getting the 6 wires?

      Nice lamp by the way!

      see this post:
      http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=543947#p543947

(and notice in box's example in this thread, there's a bit of Z-fighting on the leg.. he has the leg as a component but there's also a single face outside of the component which is what's actually being swept.. in a manner similar to what's shown in the link)

      Very nice work!

One question - how do you get all those rings thru the legs?

      i think it's actually do-able.

the rings would be split at one point around the circumference.
      bend them open a bit..
slide all the legs on the rings.
put the horizontal piece in the leg slots..
spin the legs around the circle into position..
the ring seam is hidden inside one of the legs.

looks good @carsten.. really liking the osb texturing πŸ‘

ok reading through I'm a bit shocked at the venom in here... I tend to think of this as a friendly board compared to others.. so.. ok.. shocked...!

how about all you step back, take a breath...

since the internet is mostly written with not much nuance, interpretations can swing more wildly..
some people will read "I hate this webpage" like:

      😑 😠 😠 😠 I REALLY REALLY HATE THIS PLACE 😠 😠 😑

.. and others will read it ala "don't you just hate it when ...." (eg.way more mellow / not really hating.)

then it's pretty much random how the thread will steer after that

for me, it animates better than your .gif shows but still not completely smooth.. probably something to do with needing fast hardware to get the dc animations to run smoother.. ?

fwiw.. it's hit or miss for me.. and connection speed doesn't seem to be the deciding factor.. or- both of these can happen when im on a fast connection and on a slow one.

β€’ page is white forever(20seconds?) then content pops up.
β€’ page loads in normal page loading time.

nah. it's not so bad.. i tried it with TIG's extrude edges by vector to object and it worked out fine (look at hidden geometry of the surface in the attached file.. everything matches up)

I had been toying with using planes set at twelve inch heights to make the inter-sections of the asymmetrical ribs, but haven't had as much luck as I would have liked yet.

that's sort of how i did this little thing with a 3way bend in it (in 2008?)..and i did draw in sketchup.. (arrows pointing at flat planes)..
it worked out ok but it gets 3 layers of wood then a piece of steel pipe bent to spec in order to get it round..
if these vaults get covered with plaster or smthng, it probably doesn't matter if it's perfect or not.. the plaster dude's skills are what matter at that point.

      photo.jpg

(but notice, i'm still using those planes to form a king.. there should definitely be a solid piece for the entirety of the hip or else the hip runs the risk of caving in in those spots.. most of the pressure of the sheeting material is going to be pressing in right along that seam.)

my last little recommendation -> take inspiration from that web site but don't copy them.. there are other ways and since you're hobbying this for now, no reason not to explore other avenues.
